I had the opportunity of viewing one of the effects on DVD which accompanies this item. Just watched out of interest: Time did not allow for a total review.

3 dice (included) are given out for examination. Spectator is allowed to toss them several times, proving they were not "loaded."

Six large styrofoam cups rest on the table, numbered 1 to 6. Spectator tosses the 3 dice. Corresponding numbers on top of each die is used to eliminate the cups by having spectator crush them.

Tossing of dice and elimination/crushing of cups continues, until just 1 numbered cup remains. It is lifted to reveal a long, sharp pointed metal spike.

This thing looked very clean, and totally by chance in arriving at final cup. More routines are included with "No Chance." Perhaps someone can add to this partial review.

It still hurts when I think back to the first time I performed this. Nice story and presentation had I thought out.

After the effect was over, the man was a little stunned for a few seconds but then he shouted out ha, I know it! And without exposure on this forum he was right on the secret. I HATE such moments and I still wonder how it's possible that even fellow magicians did not know how this works and here comes this "nobody" of a lay person and he blurts out the secret, grrrrrrrrrrr.

Never performed this effect again......

The dice are great, I use to try to make my own, badly, and was overjoyed when these were released.

As for the guy figuring it out some people can do that, they have the mentality for such things. My father is a math genius, an honest to god scary math guy (I never asked him or homework because I couldn't understand him) and he figured out any effect that was math based or could be reassembled in his bald little head. Engineers, architecs, very tough. The difference between many of the guys who figure it out and your guy is your guy was insecure enough to think you were trying to 'trick' him rather than entertain him and also rude enough to disrupt your gig. Reminds me of the part in My Cousin Vinny, which is my favorite movie, where the kid talks about Vinnie disrupting the act of a magician. That one part iritated me because it reflects badly on the spectator more so, than many might think, on the performer.

I spotted the secret, but...was looking at it from a laymen's point of view. And...some of them, unfortunately, are very smart!

Well, perhaps I have to blame it on that video... "When Magic Goes Wrong" or something like that, I can't recall the exact title, in which a performance of such an effect went wrong (among many others) and the spectator ended up stabbing his hand with the knife. The thing is that I don't believe spectators like that kind of effects (specially when they're the ones chosen to help with the 'experiment'). And I don't think that's magic, either. Same thing when using guillotines, guns, etc.,. on innocent spectators.

In this particular effect, they don't know what the outcome will be until the very end, but I don't think they liked it, when they found out.

Just my thoughts,
"There's a world of difference between the spectators not knowing how something is done and them knowing that it can't be done."

You don't have to use spikes or any of that nonsense. Maven did a nice presentation where the bags held different things but the bag to be finally selected contained Eugene Burgers ashes.

I guess your switch werent good enough or it wasnt clear that the dices were checked to be normal...

I have used these in couple of other routines not presented on the DVD and I havent been really "caught" yet. However I use them just as a tools, not as a main method to some trick.

Kortihai hits the key points. The dice should be just a means to pick a number and thus virtually ignored. Never say "I have normal dice" or anything like that just say 'we'll toss dice to pick the bag to' remove or crush, whatever. I've seen people use those dice with just two numbers on them and no one noticed because they were not meant to notice.

@Magicsanta, that's why I didn't follow good old Marc's instructions about the dice being heavy or something. I just used them and I didn't have the time to switch them, the comment was already made.

I have done this effect quite a few times at cabaret clubs. It gets mixed views. But recently I have found that the responcse to it isn't that great to be honest. BUT there are other routines that one can do with the dice and the No Chance set comes with a dvd with other effects on it. Such as a good bank night type effect. I have never ever been caught out with the dice ever, but mr nardi does explain on the dvd about how to switch them out etc etc. I feel there is no need though.
I say if you are thinking about buying this, then do as you can come up with your own routines using the dice.

Does anyone know of a source for just the dice? I seemed to have lost mine! I would hate to have to buy the dvd again, when all I need are the dice.

If you like the effect, I don't think you'll be disappointed with the method. I had a lot of fun with this over the holidays. You can read my full review here: http://www.calebwilesmagic.com/?p=1122
