Notice, this is not a trick, but it's just some funny prank you do on your friends while performing.
I haven't yet tried it, but I think it will be quite funny if you attach an IT to a light switch, while entertaining your friends in a small room, force them a "6" in 3 consecutive tricks.... Then starts to act a little concerned and weird out by this 666 coincidence.. all of a sudden you pull on your IT, and turns the light out. Oh you have to scream to create that choatic scary atmosphere too. I think it will freak some people out. LOL god I'm so mean....

I don't think my IT would be strong enough to pull a light switch!
Good creativity though, |

Get a remote control light switch if you have access to change the original.

I am not sure where, but I think I have seen remote control AC switches, that are activated by any sort of IR beam, from a tv remote or anything like it, and then turn an outlet on or off.
I'm sure you can find an extremely small transmitter (I have one that came with my mini stero that is nearly flat and smaller than a CC), that would make an easy remote control for lamps. If you can work with the timing, you could always get one of those timer ac switches and just time it so they go off right after you scare them with the 666 |

But then the switch is altered and you can see the IR receiver on the wall.

Hehe, you guys are putting too much thought into this. It was meant as a gag. Just have a friend standing near the light switch.

This just proves that magicians think way to complicated. Simplify things!! Marko was entirely correct.

Or IT on posters on the wall. If they are not stuck there with Krazy glue, it should work 2 posters going off the wall and then the lights.. Ooooooooo.
And have the remote of the tv/video hidden near you and a tape with something scary on it. So when the lights go off, then you can easily open the tv (since you're in the dark and the eyes of the pepole there are not completely accustom to the dark yet) and then press "play" on the remote, so the scary tape plays. You could do this while playing Ouija or something else like this! |

hahaha.... ok make sure the group has seen the ring, then make a copy of the "scary movie" part of the movie(you know which part) and have it play, then right after that have all the phone's in the house start ringing!
actually, someone should call scare tactics on sci-fi with this idea and see if you can scare your friends with it, lol. |

And you answer with "free hands" (I don't know how this option is called in english) and a little scary voice of one of your friend that called says : 7 days !

Get one of those blinker attachments that goes between the plug and the wall socket, and plug the TV or stereo into it. I've used this before to creep people out and it can be really effective when the TV starts flashing off and on.

actually, there is a brand of IT that would easily be strong enough for this cute gag.

A famous magician made the lights turn out in the room he was workiing at the Magic Castle years ago, using a remote reel.

Radio Shack sells a remote switch that plugs into the wall socket and has a small FM based remote the size of a car alarm remote.
Very handy for plug in appliances. This works great. Put in a line between two short extension cords and then conceal them. They see the cord plugged in to the wall and in to the lamp. At that point the sky is the limit!

One of the strongest effects I did at a kid's birthday party was to have the kid's father down in the basement and he would turn the circuit breaker off for a living room lamp when I touched the light bulb with my magic wand. Of course, it helped that all the kids would SHOUT "Light Off!!" and "Light On!!" as I "magically" caused the light to go off and on. The kid's 16 year-old brother is still clueless to this day. Turk

I think the IT in the Stealth Reel would work. My problem would be forcing the same card three times.

Turko, great story. I actually laughed out loud when I read that!
If this was done in YOUR house I would just assume a gaffed electrical system. But if you did that in my house I would be impressed. The idea of a reel is not bad either. But you couldn't easily turn the lights back on that way.

Bill,
Yeh! And the amazing thing was that I thought of the effect on the fly after I arrived at the house and saw the single lamp lit and standing off in a corner of the room. A quick trip over to the father and a hurried whispered conversation (making it all up as I went) and it turned out to be the "hit of the act"!! Kinda discouraging in one respect; kinda neat in another. Turk
