Saw this on the AP Wire this morning:
"This was no illusion: Magician David Copperfield's assistant was hurt on stage during a trick involving a 12-foot industrial fan. The accident happened Wednesday in Las Vegas. The show's producer said that the man, identified only as Brandon, was rushed to the hospital after a fan blade caught his arm and broke it in several places. His face was also injured. When it happened, the curtain was immediately closed and the show ended. The incident was first reported by Us Weekly. Copperfield's show, called "An Intimate Evening of Grand Illusion," is running at the MGM Grand on the Las Vegas Strip. The show's executive producer said Copperfield will continue to use the trick, in which Copperfield walks through the fan blades and then disappears."

Proof that only a Magician can walk through it, a mere mortal severely injures themselves, he should use this as an example in all his shows to prove how impossible, and how Magical what he is doing truly is!

Publicity stunt?
Guy gets hurt really bad, only a first name and Copperfield states he will continue with the illusion. It's show time! May not be the case, but tactics like that have been used before. I hope I'm right, for "Brandons" sake... |

Wow! Nothing like an accident to make the flood gates open.
Hope Brandon recovers okay. I am sure David will help him financially big time. Candin

It's a big fan and it spins fast, but fast enough to "suck someone into"?
I don't buy it. |

I read in one of the articles the they have done this over 4000 times. It's bound to happen at some point. I hope he recovers quickly and completly.

If this is true, the assistant probably lost track of his body position and entered into the path of the blade. I have no problem believing this story. I am amazed that there are not more injuries in the world of Illusions as many of them are dangerous and one misstep can create disastrous results. Publicity stunt? I don't buy that as DC does not need the headlines reading that he is irresponsible or lacking in professional safety, etc. Publicity stunts in your personal life have a much greater effect. I hope the guy is ok and gets some serious financial compensation!!! He would deserve every dime and DC *** well better respect that rather than play the attorney/legal game! Chance

Copperfield was with his assistant when he woke up after surgery on Thursday morning and presented him with a children's magic kit as a get well present. That's right - a children's magic kit. Just what you need when you've got a broken arm and a gash in your face. Said Copperfield: 'Many people assume that the death-defying illusions I do on stage are not dangerous. This unfortunate accident shows that couldn’t be further from the truth, and we’re just thankful that Brandon’s injuries weren’t worse.' Wow, David. Yeah, I mean, golly - the guy just got caught up in your great big enormous dangerous fan by accident, and here you are actually walking through it on purpose!!! That must be sooooo dangerous!!!! You must be soooo brave!!! |

Best wishes to Brandon & I wish him a speedy recovery.
The Fan Illusion is great,I think that Copperfield is performing it solo now , VRS the original version when both himself & a lady assistant performed it. |
