Thanks to everyone who chimed in to express their thoughts and opinion.
The point of this thread is to let others know Armando is offering a series of his card and coin workshops in 2009. I've benefited greatly from his teachings and I think others could too. Merry Christmas, Jerome

I really admired Armando for what he is doing,if I ever get the chance to be as good as he is,i would do the exact same thing he is doing;he is not just creating routines just to run out there to sell them in a dvd as it is the fashion these days, and at least those who can affold his workshop and are not that serious student, they can indeed keep what they learn at the workshop secret.
I am glad that my first manuscript never came out to the public,i'm really having very serious thoughts about, if I really want to put out some of my work which has taken lots of dayly hrs of dedication,to later see some guys butch it at youtube. I second what Michael V wrote:there are not that many magic secrets anymore. they go out to the public very fast. It would be nice to keep some secret and just share them with serious students of this wonderful Art. Keep up the good work Armando. Merry Christmas! |

I would think that Armondo could make much more by selling DVDs. So my impression is that while he is charging an arm and a leg for his workshops, the guy is dedicating 2 full days to teaching an effect. Maybe I missed the complaints about the "Jay Noblezzada Experience" where he did a two day workshop charging similar prices.
Isn't Armondo worth $3500 a day? (I believe the workshop costs $1K per person and he limits it to 7 people which is $7K divided by 2). I doubt very much that he is maximizing his earning potential using this approach. Why not allow 20 people in a workshop? Or lower the price to $250 and allow 100 people to attend? With the approach he is taking he is exposing his material to others for posterity while increasing the likelyhood that other people performing his effect will do it at a high level of quality. Is that so bad? Todd P.S. I write this and also must note that there are others, like Vinny, who are very willing to share their magic generously for free to anyone who shows a reasonable level of interest. Vinny's approach seems to be that the more people who love magic, the more people who will want to do it well. So I have mixed feelings about this, but I don't' begrudge Armondo the right to take the path he is taking. |

I had the pleasure of working in Vegas with Armondo at the Excalibur. He was always someone I thought embodied the true esseance of a true magician.

I think the lateset essay by Andrew Musgrove would be appropriate right about now (Andrew you might as well put it all in a book and sell it to me, man. I've been quoting you a lot lately.). Some say he over thinks things. I think he's make up for the rest of us.
http://erlandish.blogspot.com/2008/12/value-of-secret.html I applaud the way Armando is doing this. If I had the money I would certainly do it. In the mean time, I'll keep socking bits away in hopes that when I do have the money, he's still willing to teach. I hope some f***er doesn't blow it for the rest of us. Spending face time with real teachers, not a dvd or book, is an experience worth far more than most charge.
What would Wavy do?
