I'd like to do the Miser's Dream with Eisenhower silver dollars rather than Kennedy half dollars, but I'm having trouble finding silver dollars. I've tried several banks. Any ideas?

I am doing the same thing... I went to a coin show in town, and near the end of the show, I paid 1.10 each for 20.

I've been watching the Levent Miser's Dream DVDs. What an incredible resource! I don't think I'll go to the extreme he did with his personal routine (which is a killer routine), but there are some gems in DVD set I will definitely incorporate.

Are Morgan silver dollars smaller than a Kennedy half? I am looking for a coin that is between a quarter and a half dollar in size. Morgans look like a maybe, but they are expensive. Any other ideas?

Spacecop,
Not sure about the size of the Morgan coins, but way expensive! Have you thought about using the newer gold-colored dollars? They are a bit larger than a quarter but smaller than a half dollar. Same thing with a copper 2 pence coin. |

I tried a couple of banks, and none of them have the gold-colored dollars. Not sure where I would get a copper 2 pence coin in the States. The gold dollar is a good idea, and I am going to try to find them, but I was told that they are not very much larger than a quarter. Do they shine up well?

I'm surprised when people say they are paying $1.00 plus for an Eisenhower. It's only worth a buck! They are out there. I, for a short time (2004), worked for an armoured teller service, and we made deliveries of coinage to banks. In those deliveries were Ikes. They are out there.

Spacecop,
The gold dollars are a bit larger than a quarter, but not a lot. They do shine up very nicely, and the gold creates a nice look. Your bank should be able to order them for you if they don't have any in stock. When I was looking for the Ike's, the bank teller brought out several rolls of the gold dollars a customer had ordered as gifts but never picked up. |

DenAlan, put up a search online for a coin shop in your area. Of course they are full of coins.

Do they shine up well? Call jewelry stores in your area to see if they instantly gold plate coins? It does show up shiney. But because of so much touching, the gold plating will fade away. There are all kids of prices, so I can not help you with that. |

Morgans and peace dollars are both made of silver and have a numismatic value much greater than one dollar. In this economy and post 9/11, look to pay ~$20 for a real Morgan dollar. Eisenhowers are clad coins, still in circulation, and are worth exactly $1. The gold sacajawea dollar coins are a tad larger than a quarter. I don't know if they shine up well, but they are almost all severely tarnished. The material that the US mint made the gold dollar out of cost a HUGE amount of money to engineer, it was supposed to be tarnish-proof. It seems to be one of the great flops of the US mint, as it's totally backfired on them. |

If you put $20 in a post office stamp machine the change will be in various new dollar coins.

Change machines near vending machines dispense dollar coins, and not just the Sacajauea and Susan B. dollars. The new presidential dollars are about the same size and are much shinier - although, the edges make them difficult to edge grip. The Susan Bs are good for manipulation, because of the milling.

If you are looking for coins why not visit your local coin collector. I could be wrong, but isn't there a coin shop in almost every city? I'm Canadian and found American half dollars in my local coin shop. I also seen many American silver dollars there as well. Coin shop always have a large selection of world coins. You should check your yellow pages for a coin dealer near you.
