Just a personal question: any family history of lung cancer? Are you or were you a smoker? A coal miner?

I managed to quit smoking after a night in the hospital in Gettysburg, PA, surrounded by ghosts of soldiers who told me that I didn't know what courage was....

And they were right, of course.

That was two and a half years ago. But still, I sometimes get the willies about what I did to my health during those twenty years of smoking. Smile

I don't want to die until I'm about 130 or so.

Scott, may YOU live to be 131! Like Doug Higley.

Great story Jeff! Yeah, I was an on-off smoker (more on then off) for 25 years. I never smoked a pack a day, usually less. The kind of cancer I have, adenocarcinoma is most likely found in mon-smokers, females, and Asians all of which I am not. It was caught at an late stage, but was able to be surgically removed. They decided to give me chemo for 4 rounds and I have completed 3.

Thanks for the concern and well wishes.

Scott

I'm not gonna tell the details of my Gettysburg story. Not yet. Not tonight.

But listen to me:

I've got a dozen ancestors who fought in the Civil War. On both sides.

While my ancestors might have been courageous, they were only doing their duty.

People like Scott and Piers are doing something else. They are looking death in the face not for glory or recognition. They are just trying to survive, and not for some kind of abstract principle. No one is going to wave flags for them for the sake of "saving the union" or something like that.

BUT: they are our brothers. Brothers as magicians, and brothers as men. Let us give them our prayers and love and support. I'm sorry to have brought my Gettysburg story up. It's irrelevant. Scott and Piers are all that count, for now.

(And Scott and Piers...I hope you'll return the favor in twenty or thirty years when I'm in mortal danger of some kind....)

I wanted to update everyone on my condition. After surgery in Dec and 3 months of chemo, I have been released for 3 months with NO KNOWN CANCER in my body at this point. Now hopefully it will stay that way.

Thank you for all of your thoughts, prayers and well wishes!

Now let's all pull for Piers. He is going through a rough time right now with chemo. Let no one fool you, chemo is some rough stuff, and I feel for him.

Wow, I just came across this thread. Scott, I am very sorry to hear about this, but I am glad that you have made some great progress. Hang in there, and me and my family will be prying for you.

By the way, I met you last year at your magic shop. I did not know your name, and I never realized that you were the same guy! I was up at your shop in early December, just before this thread started. We were discussing doves, and I bought a Fantasma magic set for my neice, who is also a cancer patient. She has ALL, a type of leukemia. She has been to St. Judes many, many times and she is in remission now. No one really knows what it's like until it strikes close to home.

P.S. She still loves that magic set!

Best wishes my friend!

Scott, surely you must have had another check-up since your last post. Still cancer free? We all hope so. But let us know.

Last night I had a scare. I misinterpreted a Facebook message to mean that another of my friends with cancer had just lost the fight. I typically have three or four windows open to different websites, and one of them is almost always the Café, so...tears in my eyes...I immediately posted a "I'm bummed" message in the thread I was currently reading.

Then my sister wrote me a Facebook message to tell me that I misunderstood and that the woman is still alive.

So this morning I had to put on my Robe of Embarrassment to say that I was mistaken.

HA! I should really have such a robe made, since I have to wear the darned thing so often.

Anyway, the whole incident reminded me that I oughta check back in this forum to see how people are doing.

So Scott, how are you doing?
