Well, I just finished my Christmas shopping and started making some eggnog:
egg yolks powdered sugar brandy (I hate rum) whipping cream more brandy a bit of peach schnapps egg whites nutmeg Just in time to watch Hawaii slaughter Notre Dame. Merry Christmas! |

... are raw eggs in nog safe ... I know that back in the 70s ol' rocky / sly stallone drank 'em down to no ill effect but I thought in recent decades salmonella had spread through the chicken and egg farming industry ... I actually know a couple who lost their young child to salmonella poisoning maybe 10 years ago or so, and it supposedly came from eggs in their kitchen ...

Merry Christmas to all!
Thanks Bill for the eggnog recipe.Nothing like homemade. Here is my 'easy' recipe for a close substitute for the wonderful Scandinavian hot beverage Gloog. Equal parts Red Wine and Apple Cider A few tablespoons of trail mix.Preferably with[raisins, cranberries, and various nuts] 3or 4 cloves a couple of dashes of powdered cinnamon Combine all ingredients in a saucepan, and bring to a boil.Reduce heat to 1/2 and allow the mixture to reduce for about 5 minutes. Pour into cups and enjoy. If you wish to kick it up a notch add a shot of Vodka to the cup before pouring in the Quick Gloog mixture. Real men eat all the fruit and nuts [including the cloves]....your breath will be sweet for hours....and may even put some lead in your pencil. PS.You are very welcome Wives and Girlfriends. Happy trails. Rich |

Beat in 2 cups of rum, brandy, bourbon, or rye (or a mixture thereof). Let stand for 1 hour. Beat in 2 quarts of heavy cream and 2 - 4 cups of chosen liquor, and, optionally, 1 cup of peach brandy. (I used peach schnapps as it was handier.) Refrigerate for 3 hours. Beat 12 egg whites till stiff. Fold into eggnog mixture. Serve topped with ground nutmeg. Enjoy! |

Well, then, that is good to know ... I've never had 'real' homemade egg nog ... is it truly tastier than the store bought non-alcoholic stuff (which I do quite like) ...
