First Bettie Page, now Eartha Kitt, it's been a rough month for 20th century sex symbols...
For those of you who don't know Ms. Kitt had one of the sexiest voices on the planet, ever. She was probably best known for this song: "Santa, Baby" But this one was always one of my favorites... "I Want to be Evil"

Gaddy,
You were always one of my favorit people posting here but the fact you like female jazz singers just put on the top of that list. I have Eartha Kitt,Billy Holiday,Etta James and my two favorites Ella Fitzgerald and Peggy Lee. Getting back to the topic,Eartha will surely be missed but I know her music will live on as all the others greats have. I'm playing Eartha now... Don |

I saw her perform at a concert here in Cairns about 15 years ago.
She was absolutely amazing - she would stop in the middle of a song and just gaze at someone for a good thirty seconds and hold the entire crowd spellbound. And those purrs and growls!!! - she really was Catwoman. I've been playing Smoke Gets In Your Eyes and I want To Be Evil virtually on repeat since I read yesterday she had passed away. Every so often for variety I switch to Uska Dara or Cha Cha Heels. Destiny |

She will be missed. I have Eartha's Purr-Fect: Greatest Hits CD and it's a great collection. She was vocal against the Vietnam War and ended up in a self-impose exile during that time period as a result.
RIP, Ms. Eartha Kitt.

CBS news did a story on her about 2 or 3 years ago. Still packing 'em in at a jazz club. That was the most recent photo/video I had seen of her. Still sounded great, and looked great too. Hard to imagine another woman in her late 70's still being sexy, but Eartha was different.

RIP Eartha Kitt.
I had the pleasure of teaching her beautiful grand daughter magic in NY several years ago. I never had the chance to meet Eartha, however from stories she was not only beautiful on the outside but inside as well. Condolences to all her family, friends and fans. Chrystal |

I remember the time when she single handedly protested the Viet Nam war during a mothers day lunchen at the Whitehouse.

I saw her on Broadway in "Timbuktu" (A recreation of the 50's hit musical "Kismet" with an all-black cast)
She made her entrance on the shoulders of a HUGE guard who was part of the entourange carrying what appeared to be her luggage. When the guard brought her to center-stage, she sat there for a moment on his shoulder and said, majesticly; "I AM HERE!" with that legendary r-r-roll of the "r!" Then we waited for the applause to die down so the play could continue.

Eartha also turned in one of the greatest funniest Voice Over performances ever in 'The Emporer's New Groove'. A MUST see! She was a star my whole life as far back as I can remember...a true loss to us all.

She was brilliant throughout her career.
I got to see her do a stage version of Snow White a few years back. Absolutely amazing. Once she came on, the rest of the cast might as well have gone home. You couldn't take your eyes off of her. And she was great in Emperors New Groove (And in "Ernest, Scared Stupid" strangely enough). This is a sad one. Gwyd |
