Now my picture is the same, but better in some way, as Josh (the Superfluous one....)

Outside of Misdirections, the magic shop in SF. Great place, the owner Joe is a great guy. Always remembers me, I never even have to show my cool membership card....

It's been a goal of mine for some time... I have a lot of time on my hands.

I hear Kevin had to stand on a box to reach the rabbit hole. Note: he is alone in his, and I'm with Kent Gunn.

He will be receiving a PM from my attorney. Funny stuff Smile.

Kcg5, you live in the bay area? The picture isn't big enough for me to see if I recognize you. I've known Joe from the days before Misdirections.

Santa, I live in San Ramon. I didn't know there were days before Misdirections... I still remember the first time I went in there. You don't know me, I am a nobody, except for my presence here at "not very magical"...

Joe is the man!!!

Josh, bring it on. My mom is a lawyer, so I am ready!

kevin

(I should have asked some random person to be the other face...)

Again, all thanks go to agent61, who went way out of his way to do this.

I'll restrain myself from commenting on my opinion of some of Joes business practices and yes there was a magic scene well before Misdirections. Don't worry about being a nobody, I'm a nobody myself and proud of it.

My favorite memory of Misdirections was when a kid was showing me the Asher Twist (flipping over the aces).

I talked to him briefly about sleights, and began to realize that he didn't start from learning the basics, so I decided to have some fun with him. I said, "I like the Asher Twist, but the angles always bugged me. I've been working on a version of the same trick, but with better angles. Let me know what you think . . ."

I then performed the standard version of Twisting The Aces. The kid was flabbergasted!

MagicSanta - agreed on all counts. I still find it hard to believe that there are people in the Bay Area who remember when California Magic & Novelty Co. was a full-fledged magic shop (as opposed to the magic theater it now is).

I remember when Larry Wright (Magician and IRS auditor) and Michael Weber did a huge show for a large group of bankers. They had one of the bankers bring a standard security bag from their bank, and asked them to record the serial numbers of several bills, and then lock them up in the bag in the standard way. In less than 30 seconds, they were able to remove the bills from the bag!

This was back in the late '80s, and when they showed the bankers exactly how they got in, the old style security bags were abandoned, and a new, more secure style was designed.

My favorite shop was The Magic Touch in Milpitas and Bamas place in San Francisco (is that name right? I'm not a name person). Gregory Wilson lived in the South Bay when he was a kid, Daryl Martinez, Paul Harris was in Santa Cruz when Ammar also was hanging out, DME is still around, Persi, Pete Biro, Martin Lewis, Channing Pollock, etc etc...you can bet there was a magic scene.

I think you're talking about Buma's (Mark Berger's) place?
