There are SOOOOOOO many more effects better than what Blaine does on TV. I mean he is good, and VERY good handling with his spectators (maybe his crew :/). I think the only good ones he performs is 2CM and ID.

I personally really like healed and sealed. But I never use it every show. Too much work. I do use it when I am strolling. Overall it is a good trick. For the record, I didn't buy it because blaine did it.

I have been considering buying this trick for a while and have found this forum most helpful. Especially the links to the video demonstrations.
Thank you everyone I am wondering whether this trick or pinnacle is the best. As they have both caught my eye. Philip |

Pinacle is more impromptu. Healed and sealed has a small set up. If you have the moment to set H&S I think it has a stronger impact on the spec.
That said Pinacle can be done any time and can be carried in you pocket. Scott |

Healed and sealed is a good trick for a street performer. But it does not fit a stage or parlor performer as myself very well. Don't get me wrong its a great trick for some but I don't see myself walking off stage to a garbage can to get a crushed up can.
"Why is he picking through the garbage Honey?" "I have no idea."

I think it's a very effective trick for the stage performer. I work in a 1000 seat theatre on a cruise ship for 48 weeks a year.
After I do the Origami illusion, I take a moment to meet a few folks in the audience and "by chance" see a crushed can and offer the folks another drink. No one in the hundreds of shows I have done using this premise have ever said...hey that's not my can! In fact I don't think anyone has ever even commented afterwards that the can was left by a stagehand during the show. I love the effect. Heck I don't even set it anymore. My stage manager sets it about twenty minutes into the show and takes a short stroll to drop the can off in the audience on a table. I have a cameraman with a GL-1 and a 2100 lumen projector to a 40' square screen so everyone can see the effect clearly. I get three big reactions. 1st is the uncrushing...medium response, 2nd the sealing of the hole...huge rush of "ahh", and finally the sound of the can actually opening gets the biggest reaction. By the time I have poured them the glass of soda, the place is going nuts. It's such a strong effect I walk the ship and guests are constantly holding uo there empty pop cans and asking me to refill theirs. I use Tim Ellis's version of the effect and believe it is worth ten times the price. Well Shawn it seems to work for you. Maybe I was wrong. Maybe I should look at this again. I don't know if it really fits me though. But I'm glad it works for you! I really do think its a great trick but finding a way to work it into my act seems to be the hard part for me.

It is an effective visual trick but I don't like performing it

In my opinion, you have to have the image of a magician before you can perform this..as in, ppl need to be amazed by your previous tricks before you can perform this, or else they'll think it's an electronic can of coke...I THINK...

To downplay any image of en electronic device I recrush the can after I have poured the coke out of the can and tossed it in front of the spectators. The gimmick has never been discovered and I do this a minimum of 4 time a night. The only comment I ever get is do it again and I tell them that my body can only withstand so much coke!

Wow Healed and Sealed....I Like the name better than the trick...LOL Anyway I have used this on a few occasions but I find it not practical for me. The fact is that it is very visual and strong magic. But what works for you may not work for others. I do like it and it does have a strong effect but it seems to me that it is much better in others hands. I would aslo like to point out that the effect is in a lot of the wrong hands as with a lot of magic as of late.....But then again I might be one of those wrong hands...LOL

Whodini, that's a great idea....crushing the can at the end. Makes the effect even stronger!
The first time I performed it, was at home after a dinner party....picked up a crushed can from a waste basket by the bar, directed my mental powers towards the can!.......everybody was shocked in disbelief! Gerard |

Yes, The effects of this trick are strong. I have trouble making it look open (painting the top) It looks a little fake. I just try not to put attention towards it, then HOPEFULLY no one notices it. Anybody else have any advice? Thanks in advance for your help!!!

Quite surprised that people are criticising the trick because you can only do it once, or that you need a new can each time.....what do you expect, empty a can, crush it, 'fix it', and then repeat ad infinitum??? A lifetimes supply of soda...
Oh, and from the other posts on this forum I think it's pretty straightforward to work out how to do the trick...maybe people should be a bit more careful with details. |
