If you want to stop and talk to your audience, why not?
It's Magic ... there are no shoulds or oughts. Every situation in which we perform lends itself to warping our dimensional confines (usually learned from a performance theory book, or from one bad resulting experience).
Flow or pace are only as good as ones energy and ability to hold attention.

Well, Jeff, you received a lot of advise to your question. As you can see everyone has a different taste. No one is wrong on their answer. Now it is all up to you. Pick out the ones you feel more comfortable with and try them during your performance. It will be best to have a camcorder recording you also. The best way will be the way that comforts you as you are comforting your audience by a way of "entertainment with magic".
