Hi
I've recently completed and indian dove chest and need a method of "hiding" the upper/real hinges.
I built the chest so the sides can be removed using loose joint hinges. (compact storage)
I'm looking for a method to hide these hinges (loose joint)
possible a ribbon (finishing the box to look like a gift box w/ ribbons?
possible mylar/holographic tape?
possible a decal surrounding the hinge to have the hinge fade in?
a different paint scheme (including painting the hinges) to have it blend in?
by chance could someone offer any advice?
I haven't applied any paint scheme yet , so I'm open to any and all ideas

THnaks very much in advance

Can you post a photo? It's hard to suggest something without seeing the prop.

The paint and design scheme is what will work best. The eye can be fooled into perceiving the configuration of the box as different than it really is. Color breaks can suggest separations in areas other than where they actually are. Continuing the wall color below the hinges, to a false division may be all it takes to suggest a different hinge point and a smaller base. Brighter colors make areas appear larger than they are, and darker colors do the opposite.

This is hard to describe without the ability to illustrate.

How about this? any thoughts?
Paint the box a solid color but use a polka dot scheme to hide the hinges.
multiple sized dots over the entire box, possibly multiple colors/
what do you think?
thanks

Try it on a mock up and see if it works for you.
