Has Richard James come out with any great or good effect? I really never purchased any of his effects before. I was going to take the plung along with Chris until I seen that last post, still might.

My guess is that it works the way as Christopher thinks it does. It looks really good disappearing, but one part we don't see is how fair it looks when sandwiching the chosen card in between. Looking forward to reading your review.

This is somewhat similar; Solo by JB Magic; http://www.mjmmagic.com/store/solo-with-......282.html
There is a demmo video. But Snap does look cleaner and more fair.

I have this and worked with it yesterday and overnight.
You get the gaff and a DVD. The DVD has a brief, non-verbal tutorial, with subtitles. It describes the gaffs, how they work and then teaches how to use them in the context of a routine ( a full stand alone performance for the camera is not done ). After that, it shows how to do it with the wine glass that we saw in the trailer. 1) When you put the DVD in there is some loud rock type music playing ( same that is in the online demo ). On the DVD is plays at an extremely loud level. At first I turned the sound to a level 1 just to have it at standard listening level. This music plays all through the subtitle instructions and I found it distracting, so I muted it. I would have preferred verbal instruction with the option of using subtitles. I'm an old Hendrix/Clapton fan, so loud rock music is what I love. I didn't care for this music, so maybe that's why I found it irritating. Others may love it. More on the DVD in a bit. 2) The gaff works great ( just like in the demo ) and the illusion is as beautiful at home as in the demo. But there are no instructions on how to make a new gaff. I found the illusion looks best when the cards are perfectly flush ( if they have good eyesight, they will see more than one card if the cards are slightly bowed/bent ). After working with them, they are doing what cards do-have a slight bend. That's what cards and gimmicks do for me when I use them. It's not a knock on a product with a moving part. I expect wear to happen. I just want to be taught on how to make a new one. The effect is around $50 and in my opinion I don't think the video instructions are complete without a way to make a new gaff. I think some more routine ideas on the DVD would have been useful as well as a full performance. I like to make up my own routines, but many folks like to be given ideas and rightly so for the cost of the product. If this had a comprehensive DVD with instructions on how to make a new gaff, I'd be thrilled with this product. Perhaps some folks are good at crafts/gaff making and can take the gimmick apart and make another one without instructions ( I can't ). That demo was amazing and the gaff does exactly what is done in the demo, so I hope it doesn't come across that I'm slamming the product. I'm mentioning what I feel are the downsides to the product as some folks may not be able to duplicate a gaff(s) without instructions, etc. and I want them to know what it is they're getting. Anyone else have Snap that can comment?

I have been debating whether to keep this on my order or not for the last couple of days (as my order ships with ONE levi next week), I was hoping to here you received yours today as I searched the Internet all night looking for more info on it, and it's a relief you did. Thanks for your insight, much appreciated!
Now, how long would you expect the gimmick to last? I PM'd Richard and he said he has been using his for almost 2 years now! Knowing the obvious about the gimmick I was quite impressed. Would you recommend this effect? I honestly was thinking the price was a tad bit steep. Still on the line here Thanks Paul |

Hey Chris,
How is the inserting the card into the middle of the other two? Akward, natural, or what? Thanks for the help JJ |

The gaff works perfectly, as does the illusion. I want to be clear on that. I would use it, but will need a new gaff after awhile. How long? Depends on usage.
I'm just one person and others may agree with Richard that the gaff last for years. I hope Richard comes here and explains how often he used the gaff in those two years ( i.e. frequency, conditions ( a show or walk around ). Perhaps the way I handle cards is the issue. These cards need to be flush, which they are when you receive them. In normal use, I find cards show normal wear. That means they need to be be flush with one another after the vanish otherwise something may be seen. Jordan, you don't actually do that, which is all part of the illusion. I don't want to expose anything, so that's all I'll say. If anyone liked the trailer, when you get the cards it looks exactly like that. My only issue is that I will need a replacement gaff quickly.

Hi Chris, share a litte light on this
The ad on Hocus-Pocus said "A spectator selects a card and signs it. Go through the deck, take two other cards and place all the cards together. Turn their SIGNED card face up between the other two cards. With a SNAP of your fingers, their signed card visually vanishes I Asume the spectators "selects" a card. And the Magician goes through the deck and take two other cards out of the deck........It almost sounds form the text as the spectator is also choosing the two cards to make the sandwhich with. Jan |

They choose only one card and you ( Magi ) choose the other two cards for the sandwich.

Seems exxpensive... anyway do you choose the two cards so the card is sandwhiched? (obviously one of the cards is gaffed I guess)

Does n-e-one other then Chris own this? I ordered at one point then canceled after I heard the gaff was delicate (meaning it will wear quickly as cards do). I'm once again thinking about it, just so many possibility's I can think of!
If the gaff was easy to make this would be a no-brainer, but that's up in the air. Chris: How is yours holding up, do you still use this? Live situations, does it play? Reactions? Junk drawer, garbage, or holding up? Thanks Paul |

I have this and I agree with Chris. I think the gimmick is well made, but like any card gimmick, it is not going to last forever. It is unfortunate that they don't teach you how to make a new gimmick, but I figure that when the gimmick has run it's course, I'll take it apart and figure out how to make one. Given that, I would say it's a pretty nice gimmick.
Something similar is Switchblade by Dan Harlan. It does something similar, though not with the same visual "snap" and the gimmick is built to last much longer. Dan't effect along with a great DVD is only going to be on the market for a limited time as there was a conflict with someone who came up with the gimmick earlier.
