Doug, you hit the nail on the head with your last post. I was asked about going on this show, but did not think I had anything so great to show. Besides, what makes these judges right for judging these types of acts?

Eric: I meant the exploitation of large slabs of trailer and ghetto trash that slosh their ignorant massive foul smelling asses across the stage and collide like Beach Masters at a mutant Sea Elephant spawning grounds over some butt ugly moronic jive punk who thinks he's a pimp. I could imagine Jerry Springer as a nice guy I guess...just shameless and really into exposing backwoods morons and urban stupidity in the most heartless form ever designed. The Elephant Man was lucky in his day to have it so good compareed to these fools.
Thanks Glenn.

Ratings talk I suppose, the stuff that they put on TV shows how pathetic the American as a public viewing audience really is...

I can't go in great detail here, but I will say what I can.
I had turned down the first two seasons of AGT, 1-there is no way an act like mine is going to win. 2- Did not want to go through a cattle call 3-Did not feel it was goung to help me in any way. A fellow performer who I respect did the show the 2nd year and told me it helped him add zeros to his price, and that I should do the show. If you are interested, do it, if your not, don't. But if you do, have savings or a rich partner. that's all I can say. |

George is coming to NYC in Feb. to perform at the Ripley's Times Square and I don't think that would have happened without the exposure of America's Got Talent.
And by the way, why that name for the darn show. It should be America Has Talent, if anyone gave a fig about grammar. |

I just had a look at George The Giant after reading Doug Higley comment, and honestly I think a flipped coin would make a better judge

So what are you trying to say with this comment? That if you had exposure on AGT you won't need the gig at Ripley's?
Or if the people at Ripley's had seen what you do on AGT they wouldn't want you? Quote: On 2009-01-25 01:08, Freak Prodigy wrote: |

Of course the former Todd. IT'S NATIONAL EXPOSURE! Nothing can be better than THAT!

National exposure, with respect, is better. Self-respect also.

I prefer a fat pay check to national exposure.... of course I have received neither.
Strange for someone like myself who has an ability that no one else in the entire world has, but go figure. And what is this respect thing I keep hearing about?

George The Giant for reasons left unsaid has posted a comment here. Let's just say, he left out a few things on this PUBLIC forum. Being the gentleman that he is, I won't question his taking the high ground with these people on AGT.
Putting that aside...for ANY act that had put in development time and rehersal and in many cases years of live performance dues paying... to trot out and be humiliated (in some cases), out of context, disrespected on purpose and reduced to a minute of boos and ridicule or at best critique by 3 unqualified morons just plain sucks. All acts aren't good but variety acts all have a place. Vaudville always was the way for the masses to be exoposed to LIVE performers rather than being shut out of the elite forms like Opera and Ballet. I'm not saying there is no room for a 'Gong Show' where one knows what your getting into and the whole thing is for laffs and masochists...but an act has to be either desperate or misinformed to parade across the boards on AGT unless it is a PLANT or something very special. The everyday acts that would normally be entertaining in a local vaudville setting are just meat on a show like this...like the looneys are treated on American Idol. How desperate are you to just be SEEN? Milage may differ.

What Doug said. There is never any reason to set yourself up for the potential of being fodder for ridicule.

Doug, again you have hit the nail on the head. What qualifies those who sit in the judges chair to decide which acts have potential to move on to the finals?
If we had people like George Burns or some of the people who remember Vaudville, they might have a chance. One reason I did not accept was because my act is geared toward being interactive with audience members. Seeing some of the acts on the show proved to me that I have no place there. Another point was the attitude of one of the judges, Piers. He seems to follow the guy from Idol, Simon, in his pronouncement of the acts. Looking around this forum, I see a lot a great acts that could appear on the show. The quality of their performance would put them in the finals. But, as Todd stated, why set yourself up for ridicule. Until they get some judges who know quality variety acts, people will be paraded across the television screen like cattle. And, people will accept going on the show, even though the show cares nothing about them, only ratings. The one act that did win, which I was glad to see, was Terry Fator. He is original and entertaining. I pulled for him during that season and was happy that they continued him on into the finals with the end result being what it was. How it continues to be on year after year is beyond me. Glenn

It is important not to lose sight of what AGT is all about. And that is to create a show that people will watch. If the producers feel that acts must be humiliated and judges should be more colorful and qualified, so be it. What is of secondary importance is finding an act that they can promote and with which they can make money.

Curious as to how that Fator contract came about. Anybody know? Does he have the world's greatest agent/attorney or is vegas just stupid? I'm all for him and what ever he could get BUT good grief! Would he been happy to work for a couple of million?
"How about 2 million? No? hmmm...3 Million?" "Sorry fellas..." "ok...ok voice boy, 4 million..." "I don't think so..." "Look...kid...didn't you just work the Foriegn Legion Hall in Osh Kosh? Whad ya get? A grand?...ok...we'll make 5 million dollars...FIVE MILLION son!" "Nope." Repeat the above TWENTY more times!! Yipes! Terry must have had a heart attack and just gave in at 100 million. Anybody know how that went down?

I am only speculating when say that I doubt that number. I will ask around my Vegas friends about that deal.
I hope he does the numbers. That will be more variety in Vegas. And not just north of the border artsyness, but real variety as A level attractions. We'll see. Todd Quote: On 2009-01-26 17:49, Doug Higley wrote: |

Thanks Todd...yeah that figure seems WAY out of sync to me too.
Just imagine: The NEW Palace Theater in Vegas...50 independent acts on contract for scheduled rotation in a 10 act Vaudville Show. The best of the best Variety acts willing to sign REASONABLE contracts just to be a part it. 5 acts anchor and 5 change every month. Even I would go to Vegas (shudder at the thought) for that.

The show V has been doing variety for years in Vegas. I have never seen it. I think it is produced by David Saxe, Melinda's brother.
