It seems that any effect that Mr Vigil creates, can be classified as "On Steroids"
when I read the basic description of H.C.E,i immediatly thought about Simon's routine. "Histed Heisted" is truly one of greatest effects in Mentalism/Magic,when properly performed the effect has a devasting impact on an audience.Imagine the incredible mind of Mr Vigil disecting this routine, and creating a version using two decks,a version that allows for more audience participation, thus greater impact. Is this what H.C.E is all about,i am sure I am not even close. Many cannot afford this effect, myself included, but my desire to create such an effect, combined with my skills with a memorized deck, will hopefully lead me to a solution, that is original and unrelated to H.C.E. Choosing the right tool for the task is most certainly a memorized deck, lets grab one from our tool box and build our own *Monster* !! |

AH, I see I see, I've mis-interpreted this item. I was actually hoping for a Q&A routine That kind of diminished my interest in this effect somewhat.

I perform 'HCE' with my 'Guerrilla Q&A.'
Not only do I divine each card being thought of, I give each person a reading based on that cards traditional meaning. It plays just like a Q&A. It allows me to read for a higher volume of people in a most impressive manner while saving lots and lots of time! As this is going on, those people NOT thinking of cards are invited to focus on a personal question, important matter or specific concern of theirs. At this point there is nothing in play; no cards, written questions or anything, really! Just me standing there, receiving thoughts and giving KILLER readings. I move back and forth between thought of questions and answers, divining thought of cards/giving readings, etc. It can't be beat! Best, J

Yes, and?
This is not an 'out of the box' routine in any way, mind you. It takes time, hard work, dedication and plenty of flight time to make it work. Once that hurdle is cleared, there's no stopping the performer using it. I'd hate to be the guy who goes on after someone using 'HCE.' I do get what you're saying though, Sponge. Even without my addition, while 'HCE' is definitely NOT a Q&A act, it certainly DOES feel like one in action. I think this is the case in any routine where the performer can stand there and receive the exact thoughts of an entire room (or at least 20-30 of his audience members!) with nothing external happening, no mechanics, no gimmicks and no physical items, cards or props in play. -J

I added after your post because you then posted how you had taken this routine and shown how you could ADD Q&A to this, perhaps confusing people again what to expect from this routine. My "box" reference perhaps was poor; I meant that someone buying this and expecting it to include a Q&A component would be disappointed. That would have to be added by the purchaser. Someone called it a "mind reading" routine and I think that is a good way to refer to it. And definity, depending on how the cards were picked, I see this is a VERY strong piece. For the record, I have no problem with how it is being sold or the price. p.s. since you mentioned it, and only for my own personal curiousity, would you hate to come on after HCE and do only your Q&A? (you can PM cause I am curious about something I was wondering related to this question) s |

It would make me very nervous, yes!
'HCE' is an incredibly strong piece. It would be difficult to follow in any case. -J

Brad,
I caught you a delicious sea bass. Unfortunately the fishing expedition has not yielded any more than that.

All,
I am glad that Paul has priced it the way he has! This is merely to keep it away from the curious. This is for workers! I hope the people that do end up getting it use it. My thoughts are: If you use it its worth $1000 dollars and more If you don't use it, it may not be worth it to some. I think even though I don't own it this is an incredible piece of theatre, magic, and more. Thanks Alex

Alex,
I hate to make corrections, and please don't take this the wrong way, but the 1K price tag is NOT to keep it out of the hands of the curious; it's simply what the routine is worth and reflects all the time, effort, live performance, writing hours and more that's gone in to 'HCE.' I'll agree with you that it IS for worker's and Paul will not sell it to someone who does not perform. -JF

Jerome,
Thanks for your comments! I agree with you about the time, effort, patience, and more that has gone into HCE. I havent seen it personally but anything from Paul is golden! Oh and I did not take this the wrong way at all! Thanks Alex
