I've always wanted to try an In n' Out burger, since reading about them on the internet.
But can they really beat a Whataburger for taste? I'm not talking about freshness or freedom from rat hairs, but simply taste. |

I'd like to take the opposite position, In and Out Burger is some of the worse burgers I've ever had not made in an airport.

OK, then seriously:
Have any of you ever had a Whataburger? And a Whataburger is a fast food imitation of a real Texas hamburger, which--at least in west Texas--you actually buy from some hole in the wall hamburger stand run by Mexicans. The burgers taste totally different than elsewhere. Dairy Queen in Texas also has some pretty good burgers. But I swear to God on High: Texas burgers are different. Where is Father Photius? He can bear witness to this truth. |

Mike, that clip was super!
It made me proud to be an American again, and makes me wish I lived in Arizona. That clip should be mandatory watching for citizenship. |

Now we all know I'm a big boy, well north of 3 bills and even I can't imagine eating one of those triple or quad bypass burgers. There was an article in Maxim a few years ago about a place that serves a burger on a Krispy Kreme donut. YUCK! Actually my favorite burger place is Fuddruckers, and I usually get an ostrich burger. Of course, the lower fat in the burger is made up in cheese and bacon.

A Krispy Kreme donut? That's disgusting. That would be like putting strawberries and whipped cream on your chili dog.
It's...ah...well...uh...DECADENT! That's the word for it! Living in Europe it is very interesting to hear things like "America has no culinary culture". Forget Louisiana for a moment, and let's say that they are right. Would you rather have something made by a professionally trained French chef with thirty years experience in a top Parisian restaurant? Or two chili dogs? I'll take the chili dogs. Does this make me some kind of communist? |

I miss "Jackson Hole, Wyoming" which was a burger place in New York City. You knew this place was good because it had "knock offs," people would open places with names that SOUNDED similar hoping to get stupid tourists.
I would generally get a 'pizza burger' my wife would get a "Copsegmore" which was some piled high monstrosity with cheesse and mushrooms ham, tomatoes and God knows what. I think they may have actually skipped the burger part and no one would have noticed. Just looked them up out of curiousity. They're still in NYC.

The pizza burger at the local spaghetti joint (Zio Johno's) is AWESOME! A very nice patty with homemade marinara meat sauce and fresh mozzarella cheese. Yum!
As for Maid-Rites, the chain was founded here in Iowa but there isn't one in Iowa City - we have to drive 20 minutes to the nearest one. Which I do. Monthly or more. I LOVES me them Maid-Rites! But the best loose meat sandwich in Iowa is at the Canteen diner, which is located off an alley in downtown Ottumwa. (Nixon ate there when he was in training in WWII.) They're just wonderful. Get them with the Sterzing's potato chips (made in Burlington) and finish up with a slice of homemade pie. *Drool*
