Search the forum. There are myriad threads regarding this.
However, in a word, no. This illusion was created by Steve Fearson and sold by him exclusively to Copperfield. David Copperfield has the sole, exclusive rights to perform this effect. This means that Steve himself is not even allowed to perform the trick. Copperfield has not released this to anyone, therefore anyone performing it is stealing from him.
It's all in the reflexes.

Copperfield owns the rights, and as stated above, not even the creator can perform it. Just because someone on youtube has stolen it, that doesn't make it OK...people rob banks all the time, but that doesn't mean that it is now OK for all of us to go rob banks. Why don't you create an illusion that is just as good, yourself? Maybe you can figure out how to cut yourself in half lengthwise...or check out Steve Fearson's Fantastic Floatation? That is a marketed effect and very cool.

Michael,
Believe it. The versions on YouTube were all created by people who figured out a way to do the effect. Many of the videos show a truly horrible performance that exposes the secret. (not necessarily the same way DC does it). On the rare occasion when someone does it as a public performance, if it gets back to David Copperfiekd, his legal team takes action. If you are looking to make a name for yourself, using this effect isn't the way to go. Best of luck. David Bilan

When I lived in Vegas yrs ago I was at Steves home and he had just sold the Illusion to David. He said that David would have the rights for around 4 to 6yrs, I can't remember the amount of yrs..... Any how he sold the rights for a large fee to David from what I'm told. He told me that after the time ran out that he was going to sell this effect for around 100.00per person that bought it...One hundred dollars per unit... I asked him why so cheap? He said I would rather sell a thousand at 100 dollars that three at ten thousand dollars.
Unless David bought more time that was last that I new.... This was 15 to 20 yrs ago though.... I know that my friend Tim White would know. Maybe we could get him to comment.. Thank you, Taylor

Steve had a whole thing about this and his agreement on the Café some time ago, remembered he wasn't very happy about the whole deal and was even thinking of taking it to court, but he sold the plans to Copperfield and that is the botom line, so Copperfield is the only one who can perform this! (sad but true!)
