Like a lot of magicians I have used the basic effect for TT bottles yet had a hard time figuring out how to take it to the next level. Rather than keep it in my act as a magical puzzle, I now use only the gimmicked tube and use the prop as a way to prove that the magician is really quicker than the eye.
I demo how the bottle can be placed right side up or upside down in the tube and then explain that I am so fast that during the next few tricks I can change the position of the bottle without the kids seeing me. I leave the tube either on a seperate small table to the side of my performance area or sometimes right on the floor. I then proceed with a couple of effects and periodically show the bottle at different positions to prove how quick I am. I don't overdo it as experience has shown that if its overworked, the kids wont pay attention to the effects that you are doing while you're supposedly switching the bottles. It's a nice running magical effect that the adults usually comment on afterwards. Lately, after I have shown the bottle for the last time (which of course is upside down), I do not cover the bottle with the tube. Instead,I place the bottle right side up and load an egg under the tube. I produce it after I do the final vanish of the egg in my egg bag routine. It's fun, easy, and gets a good reaction, even from those hard to please crowds. Give it a try if you're feeling a need to stray from the traditional TT bottles routine. At this time, I'm trying to think of an effect to do with the bottle ... any suggestions would be appreciated. |

Bravo, I love it when children's performers think outside the box. This is a great example of creative thinking for standard effects.
Most of my show is made up of classics— Cut and Restored Rope, Linking Rings, Torn and Restored Napkin, etc. but I strive to wrap them in new presentations. Currently I am working on a non-traditional presentation for the mutilated parasol by showing kids some of the cool antiques I got from my great aunt who was a circus performer. Naturally I do eveything wrong and I don't fix the parasol. It is these kinds of ideas that keep this fourm fresh. Sure beats the standard "good job", "congatulations" etc. type of posts I read, which seem to serve no other purpose than to see how high one can make the number of posts we have. Gotta make it into that "SECRET ZONE".
