Can these two tricks be done to the same spectator more than once?

Chris, out of my experience doing Impression no one has ever asked to see this again. Impression is not really one of those effects that laymen afterward say "Hey, do that again!" I have never been asked to repeat the effect and I have done the effect over 100 times now table-hopping.
I think what this comes down is your presentation. If you are clear, concise, and direct when you do Impression than there won't be an issue of doing it again. When you do this, you have to really build it up and sell the presentation. Make it as powerful as it can be. Part of making things powerful for laymen is by being straightforward. If you give them a clear routine, and put a lot of energy into this. It is no longer a trick, but an astounding mentalism feat. Do people ask a stunt doer to pull off a big stunt again after doing it. Not really. I doubt they will ask you with Impression. After all, you can make Impression a big stunt of mentalism with your presentation. If for some reason some punk is giving you a hard time or if your presentation is lacking a bit and someone asks you to do it again, here's what you can do.... Carry a back up prediction card on you at all times that says "There, I did it twice for you. This is the card you will sign." You can doing something along the lines of that. Now, when you do it twice it is more of a comedic atmosphere. most importantly they will be amazed that the card said something like that and you may even get laughs. It works as a good back up plan and I always carry one with me now that says that. The only issue you might have with doing the trick twice is making sure the misdirection is effective both times. The way you do that is by simply performing Impression a lot and noticing where they are looking at moments in the trick. You can use that to your advantage if you know where they are looking at certain points in time. You can know when to do the "move" invisibly. I shouldn't let Yousif answer, but I think I had something valuable to add. Hope that covers it, Andrew |

Hey Yousif,
Congrats on your new product! I don't have it yet but I heard it's superb! I would like to know though, I read that one of the effects of Xpert is like your Impression effect...are they similar? In what way are they different? I think the effect is called Xpert's X-ed card. If you ask me, it's a WHOLE lot more similar to Impression than FT is Basically X-ed card effect is: A card is freely selected (no force) and kept facedown while its back is visibly marked with a bold X. The cards are mixed, and the performer not so amazingly locates the X-ed card. But then comes the surprise-although the performer is no sleight-of-hand wizard, he is a mentalist: the X-ed card is turned face up to reveal the words "My Prediction" printed on its face. All the cards may be examined or given away. Instant reset, ends clean, no switches. Thanx for the input anyone! I'm just curious Take care, Logan

Hi Logan,
This issue came up in another review thread for Yousif's effect. A vigilant XPERT weilder proclaimed that the same effect could be done with the XPERT, and that it was better. A proponent of Impression insisted that it was better because it was more impromptu. And on and on. As I said in that forum, comparing the XPERT with Impression isn't quite fair. When you buy Impression, you are buying a single, strong routine that Yousif has cleverly built upon the brilliant thinking of Al Baker and Clayton Rawson. The XPERT, on the other hand, is an entirely new utility device that comes with FOUR strong, original routines (one of which bears a resemblance to the plot employed in Impression). And to the thinking performer, The XPERT device is even more than that: it opens up entire avenues of creative thought. So many, in fact, that I am currently starting work compiling a subsequent book of routines submitted by current satisfied users of The XPERT, including Larry Becker, Kenton Knepper and Greg Arce. I hope this helps clear things up.

Hi Logan,
I have both, and let's just say that you will use them both, depending on the situation. The methods are completely different, so don't worry, you won't waste your money. Also, you can do many other things with the XPERT. Cheers, Jeff |

Well start being happier buddy!
Yousif has got a real gem here! Not only is this simple to execute, but its a joy to perform. Due to its simplicity, it leaves alot of room for proper presentation - which is very important. If you're sitting there, wondering whether you should get it or not...wonder no more! This trick will NOT let you down or disappoint you! It's gotten such great recommendations and it's just gotten one more...mine! Thanx Yousif, for sharing this with the magic community, I'm sure everyone (and I KNOW that I) appreciate this effect - are you coming out with anything else per chance? Take care buddy and I wish you the best! Logan

Impression might be the next evolution, much like 3 fly has gone through. |

Yes it works really well with a blank deck, but I've gone back to using a normal deck as you can follow on with other tricks.Where as with the blank deck, there isn't too many tricks you can follow on with. You can always do the Ambitious Card,I guess,in which case the working is very easy. LOL.
As said before, this is a great practical trick! Chappelly |

Hey Chappelly,
Thanks for your advice to the Impression users. I guess if you wanted to use a blank deck, it would be best as a closer. Thanks. |

Keep in mind you are purchasing a MOVE and not a new move. This move is on many videos out today. The method has been around for a long time. You will receive a presentation for the move but you probably already do this move unless you are brand new to magic. You have to decide if the 10 or so bucks is worth purchasing this move.

Actually magicbyswh,
You aren't purchasing the move, as it isn't mine to sell. As you said, the move has always been there. Therefore it isn't anything new to a purchaser. However, the presentation, the routine, the way it incorporates the move is what I am selling. Hope this clears it up. Thanks. |

The presentation has been done by Jay Sankey.

Can someone clarify this trick? I still don't get it. Because after reading it, you can figure out many ways to acheive this effect. You can do a flat out force, you can do a henry christ force which allows spectators to flip cards over one by one and stopping anywhere they wish. The ad seems very bland as if it's just a card trick that you could find in many books. If I'm paying for the ROUNTINE, I would like to read more about it in the ad.

2 pages of a move. Along with a presentation of a trick like one that is on one of Jay Sankey's tapes.

Wow! What an "impression" I made last Saturday night at a performance when I did Yousif's "impression".
Blew everyone away, simple in move but deadly. This trick was the talk of the show after, the lady who wrote her name on the card said "what dah blank blank. Here is a tip for anyone who bought it and everyone should, it's so cheap, a bargain if ask me. Use red decks especially the ones that has more space on the cards to write. The black lettering stands out against the red back card. Richard Lyn "Tricky Ricky" |
