I have been lving in Spain now for the past tow years. In this time my partner and I have recreated a life for our selfs through busking, during the qwiet season we pitch magic. I have been busking now for over 15 years but this is the first time I have fully enjoyed the freedom that busking can offer. We have a motor home as our main base and travel from town to city to village perhaps a festavel all market.
Unlike most of Europe, Spain way life in one sence surports alternative life styiles of buskers and more. Warm weather most of the year round thousands of festavels that they call ferrars. If you cant speak Spanish that will limit you to working your show to expats resorts all heaverly populated tourist spots not a bad thing. The other side is to take the coin in consideration. Spain is not the richest country in the world, they tip but not well. It does varey from place to place but its not brilliant. On the other hand if you wanting an alternative all you have to change is how much you have going out, bring that down and you have a passport to freedom. Today is monday and we returned to our hide-out on top of a moutain in Anderlucia. We have been working the markets and in between busking at a music festavel. Bloody hard work, parking up on pitch the night before, setting up the stand from 6am oclock packing it down by 3pm. Food and then sleep before the night shift busking from 6 untill 10. Then drive to the next market and park up on pitch before you start all over again. This time of year it is real hard work by sunday I cant wait untill we have parked up in our hide-out. Watch a few films, burn the wood burner, wine good food then come tuesday you off again. This time of year we seem to work twice as hard for half as little. Role on summer, that is when we just work the streets from 7pm untill late. Way to hot to work during the day. Come 2 oclock most of the Spanish are in bed so are we. We are still planning our summer ahead that is to say we don't know what where going to do yet. Perhaps a trip across Europe may be a good idear Mario |

Mario your doing it rather than just talking about it. Good luck and enjoy while you can.
Did as you are many years ago and what an experience it was. But found I needed a base, so changed the format and work as you do throughout the UK from April to December then retreat back home to hibernate till the next season. This approach may work well for you in the future, you will know when its time to slow down. BTW Its odd that after traveling we all return to the roots and in my case it paid off financialy as well with a living to be made on my own doorstep for a change.Cellini went home as well,,,,spooky! Enjoy (From your post you obviously are). |

Hi Chance, we had a look at some of the pitches you mentioned. Still qwiet the resestion is having an effect on tourist trade big time. With the fall of sterling (the pound) agianst the eruro many Brits are staying home for their holidays. The whole tourist trade is being effected. It will pick up for the summer.
It was good to talk to you as well, thank you for your call. Mario |
