In 31 minutes, he is already better than that other guy was for eight years.

He's definitely the right choice if your main criterion is giving good speeches. I'm holding back judgment until I see him actually do a few things.

Ya know Kcg5...ain't it about time for you to grow up a bit? The other guy is gone. The new guy was able to smooth over differences.

Doug, stop worrying about me growing up. I am not a fan, was never a fan of bush, and now I am very glad that he is gone. I can only hope that Obama is able to smooth over differences both in our country but around the world, and mend relationships that where other wise hurt by Mr. Bush.
(and yeah, hes been gone for about 45 minutes. By the way, you may call me kevin) I always think you posts interesting and thought provoking, but if you don't like my thread, don't read it

I don't care for the constant cheap shots is all. You're smarter than that, you can do better. We get it, that you're not a fan... but should it color everything and every angle? There's a bigger picture than this petty bickering over personalities and ridiculous party line partisanship. Should I bring up how I detest Harry Reid on everything being discussed? Maybe I should (haha) but I would expect to be called out on it after awhile. Beating the Bush Drum is too easy and really pointless. You got your man...he's beginning to win me over too...but not at Bush's expense...Obama's asked for a new path...I'm willing to take it. You?

I was readin a book of surveys(i know I'm cool) and it was saying that just after 9/11 Bush was the most popular president ever and now hes the least popular president.
Its amazing how peoples opinions change. Dan

Keep in mind that I have read and studied most of the inaugural addresses of most of the Presidents, so I was listening for some very specific things which "change" or a "new path" might mean, and I heard none of that. I'll support him, and I am in a certain sense quite proud to be an American right now (Aretha brought tears to my eyes--no lie). But I heard nothing of real political substance in the speech. Quite disappointing. |

Obama will probably make a few...but it's the strength of character and vision that will pull us all through this mess. Seemingly he has it...maybe not the experience but the sheer will and confidence to see it through and done right wins my support.

Did you expect to hear anything of substance - it's a presidential inauguration speech rehashing all the "promises" that have been promised by all politicians who ran for office. Substance starts in a few more days when we see what choices/decisions are made. Speeches like this one are all too common no matter who the politician is.

I thought he looked a bit tired...no wonder!
Aretha I thought screwed the song up royally. Especially the first few words...not exactly the proper place for a pause in multi sylable words. Josh Grobin should have sang it.

Yesterday someone on cnn said the words in the speech will be carved in marble someday.
Have they started carving his face in Mount Rushmore yet? |

I missed the speach. I was kind of hoping he'd just stand up and say "can you dig it?".
