So, the Kaiju effects have been going over rather well here. I thought I'd try out a little something that is still in the "B-movie" magic genre (B-Magic?)...something that I've been working on for just a little bit. This is a little more of a full stage setup, but I think that it could be toned down for smaller venues.
This is my salute to the Friday the 13th Series. This one is for the Slasher Fans. I envision this as a silent act....the music, of course as the Illusion title would suggest is Alice Cooper's He's Back (The Man Behind The Mask) HE'S BACK - THE MAN BEHIND THE MASK THE ILLUSION The lights come up on the stage. A two person camping tent is in the back left corner of the stage. There are several trees surrounding the area. Front and center stage is the Performer and an assistant. The are roasting marshmallows by the campfire. (The Performer perhaps performs a bit of magic fireside....maybe a floating marshmallow?) As they cuddle in their blissful world of warm, gooey goodness, a shawdow emerges from the "woods". A hockey mask, machete wielding maniac is standing behind the two oblivious lovers. With a few powerful strides, he is upon them. He grabs the girl and hoists her to her feet. The Performer scrambles to his feet. As The Killer raises his machete to strike, The Performer grabs a log and hits The Killer across the back of the head. The log breaks and The Killer is unfazed. He tosses the girl to the ground, where she huddles up against a nearby tree. The Killer swings and with one powerful hit, knocks The Performer out. He stuffs The Performer into a sleeping bag and zips up the side. He takes his machete and thrusts it deep into the sleeping bag....a deep red stain appears. The Killer then picks up the bag and forcefully swings it into a nearby tree....then tossing the limp bag into the tent. The Killer turns his attention back to the girl. He advances on her and again hoists her to her feet. She struggles and beats uselessly against his chest. The Killer reaches up and tears off his mask to reveal that he is the Performer. The girl is saved. The Killer vanquished. For now. THE END??? Well, that is the gist of it anywhoo.......I think this might find an audience with the same folks who enjoyed ddooms Bloody Saw..... It's really just the old Ghost House Illusion dressed up as an 80's slasher movie.....using a sleeping bag and tent instead of a house prop. Lemme know what you guys think! And good luck getting the song out of your head now! YEAH CAUSE HE'S BACK...THE MAN BEHIND THE MASK......AND HE'S AFTER YOUR SOUL........ ...........catchy little diddy, ain't it?

A friend of mine and I had a Friday 13th marathon a while back. The thing we were most amused by was how the victims would be running for their lives and Jason just walked behind them, then suddenly he would appear in front of them and kill'em. It was like he was able to teleport!
Your routine sounds good. For some reason I keep imagining Lance Burton doing it. |

You know I think Lance Burton did something similar with a guy in a tux and a strange fencing like mask now that you mention it. I think it might have been on one of the World's Greatest Magic specials? I do vaguely remember something like that though.......
Rule #476 of the slasher film: It doesn't matter how fast you run and how slow The Killer walks.....he's still going to pop out of a tree in front of you and kill ya!

My other favourite is the victim hearing a noise (often in an area with little cover), turns to face it, finding nothing turns back and suddenly the killer is standing right in front of them. |

I don't think it was on Worlds Greatest. I think it was on one of Lance's specials.
Before that it was on "Magic from the Magic Kingdom" circa 1989 a great special. The time before that I saw someone do an interesting take on the theme was a still young Copperfield doing a whole comedic take on Psycho: Pretty lady ( Angie Dickenson or someone like that...), a "shower" or curtain on a big hoop on a platform and a guy in a granny gown and mask. If I recall, Coppy and the girl hide in the shower, Granny goes for the kill, they disappear, Granny is Coppy. TA DA! Anyway, this is a WAY fun idea with the Friday the 13th theme! C

Oh yeah, you're right Christian!
I remember the Copperfield version too! I saw that live when he came to town........ I started to come up with this routine while we were putting together our Halloween Illusion show. Originally it was going to trace the history of horror cinema..... I've also got some ideas for Nightmare on Elm St, Halloween, Hellraiser and other "iconic" horror movies too.....

Just a suggestion-
The slasher grabs the girl after killing performer. He raises the machete, then stops and acts dizzy. He drops the machete and his body language suggets supporting the girl rather than attacking. The girls removes his mask, and it's the performer. I presume the magician produces the tent and starts the fire by magic so that people know he IS the performer before the slasher come out...

Er, how about the girl takes the machete away from the slasher, kills him with it, removes her mask, and she is the performer.

Magus....I like that! That makes a bit more sense than him just ceasing the attack and suddenly whipping his mask off!
I had figured the performer could perform some magic fireside for his companion....though I hadn't really figured on what he would perform.....perhaps a floating flame effect? Bill, that'd be a pretty *** cool ending to the effect as well!

How about the girl kills the slasher, then when they take off the slashers mask, the slasher is the girl.
