Hey guys
Well I've never had tally ho's and I wanted to know if there was any difference between the two. Which do you prefer? What about differences in durability, feel and handling? Would love to know about this. Thanks guys:) |

Years ago back in the last millenium Tally Ho was the choice of noted magicians such as Dai Vernon, Larry Jennings, Bruce Cervon, etc. The cards had a distinct finish (Linoid) and handled exceptionally well. The back designs (Fan and Circle) were and still are classic. The Ace of Spades design underwent several slight changes and to this day, is one of the most beautiful IMHO.
Unfortunately today, the quality has plummeted and they handle like regular bikes IMHO. The box still advertises that it has a Linoid finish, but they feel like Air Cushioned Bikes. I have read somewhere that all the cards that USPCC manufactures have the same finish (to reduce cost). But, this is all up to conjecture as many will argue that they handle differently and that they are a step above Bikes. I like the look but to me they handle the same as Rider backed Bikes. Buy some and decide for yourself. Cardamagically, Dom

In my opinion, Tally Ho's handle better than bikes. They have feel lighter than the bikes in a way, and last longer than them.

As Dom points out, you will have to decide for yourself. It is a highly subjective matter. Myself I have changed favorite decks several times as I have become more proficient with card handling. Some cards I thought were really good two years ago I find mediocre today, and vice versa.
I think Tally-Hos feel a lot better in the hands but I think the back designs are uglyish. The Ace of Spades that many love, I find overdone and slightly grotesque. But as far as I know, there is nothing you can do with the one deck which you cannot do with the other. It is merely a question of personal preference. Cards are relatively cheap things too. Compared to what people often have to buy to keep their other interests alive, it is a small expense. Get a few different brands and change back and forth between them over a period of time.

Wow.. Didn't know they were supposed to feel better. I just bought a pack and they feel kinda the same as bikes. I guess ill tell about the durability later. They kinda lasted and handled better in the outside humidity but I guess I'll find out after further playing around.
Anyone else's preferences? Anyone else feel that the quality has changed from the past? Just wanted to know what the deal was with the tallys. |

I haven't had a Tally Ho deck for years as I just use Bikes. I am not sure I get this obsession with card types. A deck of Bikes last me one professional performance and after that it is signed up, torn up and goes in the trash.

Now I mainly perform from a shuffled deck in use, to coin a phrase, my deck of choice has to be red fan Tally's. The finish is identical to Bikes (Someone close to the manufacturer actually said so here some time ago...) but in my view the cutting is more precise. (I've only ever seen one miscut deck of Tally's!) And in my meagre opinion, they look much nicer!
For those that are interested, I perform only two effects that require that something special these days; "Beyond Belief" by Dave Campbell and "Muldoon Match" by Paul Gordon and all the requirements for those (and many more effects!) are available at International Magic in London (£7.50) and The Card Collection in Ashford (£8.50) I only added that paragraph just in case people are deterred from Tally Ho because of a belief that such cards don't exist. |

I do prefer tally-ho to normal bikes..I think they are less slippery since they do not have the air cushioned finish..Also they do not hold a crease in them easily also..
I think they do feel better..If I handle a pack of bikes I think on these are nice..but then when I switch to a deck of tally-ho the feel just is nicer..that probably does not make since but that is just my 2 cents keith |

I prefer Tally's in general. They seem to feel a lot "softer" and more pliable than most Bikes. As long as you're not comparing them to Richard Turner's Gold Seal Bikes, which are amazing, I find they fan better and definitely Faro better, at least for me. I've tried about every card there is out there over the years and my favorite deck is still my (please no flaming )Tally-Ho David Blaine Split Spade red deck. Unlike a lot of other cards they just seem to get better with age and I've never had to retire that deck. Some Bikes, especially those from Ellusionist and Theory11 are a lot thicker and stiffer and lend themselves better to flourishing but for real play and sleights I always prefer Tallys.

HEYYYYYYYY Paul, Nice to see ya mate!
Are the STUD's in the UK the old style or the same as we have in the Walgreen Drug here in the States? I do like em although they are a tad thin but overall a nice card AND you can perform Paul's "STUD" trick! Cheers, Mick |
