I was wondering what kind of induction fellow hypnotists have used and what they recommend for a comedy night at a night club. Some say a PMR is too long, others seem to like them for this kind of situation. Just wondering what has worked and not worked for others.

You asked this a while ago, but I'll toss you my answer.
I'd use the EKG from Geoffrey Ronning, a modified Dave Ellman or instant inductions. Having personally performed in a comedy club, I used an EKG. It's a good, all purpose induction for a normal show. If you're doing a stand-up, limited time situation, I'd definately go with an instant induction so you can get right into the comedy. |

If I was doing a comedy club with limited time I would do a very strong mental routine to prove my credentials then do the Dr Q routine, or a variation on it. An induction is dead time in a short show.
Once I did a gig at a college and I was booked for two hours. But when I got there they gave me twenty minutes between two bands. I walked on to the stage, told the students that my time had been cut and I would only work with the most hypnotically suggestable. I called up my volunteers (thirty came up) and shouted sleep. The dozen that dropped their heads instantly I used in the show. The rest were dismissed straight away. If you get a huge crowd and can put up the confident front, instant inductions might work.

Hi, Tony.
I imagine that some people reading this won't believe that what you did worked, but from experience I can honestly say that is absolutely correct. Personally, I love to use people who claim they either can't be hypnotized or have been told they can't be hypnotized. All I do is tell them we're all going to have lots of fun, they'll be perfectly safe, and ask if they'll follow my instructions completely. If they say, "Yes," I know they're going to go into trance quickly and easily. However, I prefer rapid to instant as you did. IMO the audience (and sometimes the volunteers) expect something longer and to simply drop them all prevents me from fulfilling that expectation. Doing a rapid gives the impression that I'm really good at this (actually, they're the ones who are good). I'll use instant on one or two volunteers just to impress. If I were put in the position you found yourself, I think the instant induction you gave would be a powerful and effective means to induce trance. Well done! |
