Backdrops for Vents?
Hey folks... I know there is a lot of info on backdrops for magicians on these boards.. But I'm wondering if any of you working vents use some sort of professional backdrop system, and if so what type? Some of the backdrops made specifically for magic acts, might be a little to spruced up, foo foo, fancy shmantcy for what a vent might require? I know some of the venues around my area already have a stage/backdrop....but many don't...and most private functions don't... I realize what backdrop would work in a corporate gig, verses a child's party might be two different things....or, possibly go with something really simple and basic, that would work anywhere? Thanks in advance for any thoughts/opinions.. AC |

AC,
I use two 24" wide retractable banners - 96" height - one on either side of the stage. They act as bookends and while they aren't a full drop, they tend to frame the performance area nicely. Best part - they pack nearly flat and I can fly them in my suitcase. If you do a search for retractable banners on the Café, you will find some discussions and info on where to get them at reasonable prices. Tom |

A storytelling friend of mine has a simple set-up she built of PVC irrigation pipe and cloth. It's two six-foot squares joined in the middle and opened to an angle. Messages and decorations can be pinned or taped to the cloth. All the equipment can fit into a golf bag or a golf bag case.

Thanks for that link,
That is a nice homemade backdrop! I have bookmarked this site for sure! I really agree with the quote on the page, "With the backdrop, I could feel the excitement of the audience even before I was introduced." So true....a lot of show biz is...well, SHOW BIZ!!.....you definitely have to have your act together, but the promotion, and production of the actual "show" is so important. AC |
