I saw Clint Eastwood's new movie 'Gran Torino' this evening. I thought it was a pretty good film. I've seen no publicity for the movie in my region so I really didn't know much about the movie going in. I probably wouldn't have seen it (at least not so soon) except for a friend's recommendation.
Clint plays an aging war vet with a gun or two in the house, along with a bad attitude. Hilarity ensues.

I thought it was one of his best. I put it there with Unforgiven.

If I had a theater I'd go see it! Love Clint...
I didn't realize movies opened worldwide at the same time...learn something new every day. Balducci, did you like it? |

Here is a nice little interview with Clint talking about his movie:

I had it bad for Clints wife before she was his wife. She was a news lady and cute as heck. He stole her! Oh, when his wife was on the news the weather guy, I can't think of the name, went on to have a nighttime show like Conan Obrians, good news back then.

I went to see this movie only because it started at a convenient time and I had a limited amount of time to watch a movie that day. Bottom line - I had no idea what it was about, but I LOVED it! Like many of his movies, it doesn't turn out like you expect it to, but the ending is strangely satisfying.

Five stars! Bitterman your right about the boy, but it did not hurt the movie for me.
Our friends don't have to agree with me about everything and some that I hold very dear don't have to agree about anything, except where we are going to meet them for dinner.

Man, Eastwood is a National Treasure. His body of work as a an actor and filmaker is almost mind boggling.

I liked the movie, but I did think that it was distractingly over the top in some places (the visual imagery of the final scene, the exaggerated rudeness of the kids in the opening funeral scene, etc.) Overall, though, good flick. And I got to recall a wide variety of racial epithets I'd forgotten about since Jr. High School.

I could have done without the singing at the end, but hey, it's Clint Eastwood. He can sing if he wants to!

Wife and I both loved the movie also. I read a review going in where it talked about how difficult it was to watch the movie because of the terrible bigotry displayed by the main character early on. We, on the other hand, laughed through most of the racial epithets. We couldn't believe how wonderfully creative the cranky old guy could be! A bit Archie Bunkeress although admittidly more mean spirited.

When I was a kid I had hard rock albums and the soundtrack to Paint Your Wagon. It was such a box office failure that it changed how studios make movies but then for some reason it became hugely popular, kind of like A Christmas Story.
Then there is the most unshown Clint movie, the one where he is an injured civil war soldier who has sex with a house full of females from around age ten to 30. |
