Well put Alexandre.
I feel it's also prudent to state that any performer that claims such a close bond with an animal should be treated with extreme suspicion. No offense Don.

I can't comment because I haven't seen Don Theo III's work, but the method for Cat Psychic is a good one. In my opinion this is one of the strongest effects in the book as far as method. I've been in magic for a long time and I find this method to be innovative. The card shown to the cat by the performer is set aside visibly on the table. After the spec looks into the cat's eyes, they may or may not call out a card, if the card does comes through, the spec calls it out, and turns over the card on the table for confirmation. Sometimes the spec misses by a suit or a number or two.
Not sure this is in any way similar, but the way this was brought out in codes leads me to believe that maybe some sort of accusation was at bay. I don't know if this friend of mine has seen Don Theo III's work or has met him, but why isn't it possible for people who have possibly never met or seen each other's work think of similar ideas? As far as the book project, my friend believes that magic and mentalism with animals is well known and should come as no surprise to anyone, this material is in the bible and goes way back, yet he believes it’s a somewhat abandoned and unexplored subject. I believe as mentioned earlier that he should keep animals out of it and with these same methods create other routines. My reason for posting on here and prove this point to my lurker friend. Another such routine included in the book is Lizard Stuck on Table which I find humorous myself. But again, the method is what intrigues me here. It's creative. Basically a hypnotic suggestion renders the lizard immobile on the surface of a table, until the performer breaks the spell and the Lizard moves. I've seen this performed. Can a lizard be trained in such away? Again the method is what inspired me. Thanks for your thoughts, information and links. |
