Paul sent me a copy of the Alchemical Tools some time ago and I've been a bit rubbish and said nothing about it.
So here goes: This covers all the things a modern mentalist needs to know that any amount of off the shelf DVD's and tricks doesn't tell them. That said, it saddens me that there needs to be a book that teaches those skills -You have no right to call your self a mentalist until you know them. Sadly many people don't. Doug P.S. - That means I like it. |

Does anyone know any information about Paul's upcoming book Chrysalis of a Polymath yet?
Some people hear voices.. Some see invisible people.. Others have no imagination whatsoever.

I loved Alchemical Tools too.
On Mephistos Shoulder is my favorite though in terms of effects. Of course The Gift is great if you haven't if you have an interest in the subject/technique it covers and have not already got your head around the control required for effectively using it. Best value for money is definitely Alchemical Tools. Anthony

Depends on what you're looking for. If you're a beginner, "Alchemical Tools" is most likely not for you. You will not get anything spectacular in terms of effects. The real power of that book comes from psychological ploys you can use to enhance your performance as well as an ehanced understanding of our art. Questions like "how many effects should I have in my repertoire?" and " "how to present my effects in the most convicing manner?" will be answered. I did not get any effects out of that book. However, it was a real mind opener.
"The Swan Song" is my last release to the mentalism community. Only a few copies remain!
"Unholy Grail" is now available! Features Perfected Day for Any Date, Ultimate PK Touches, Triple Drawing Duplication, and The Presence (my ghost effect)! Everything is 100% prop-less! "Tres" LIMITED EDITION e-Book contains my signature "No Touches" PK Touches! Now SOLD OUT! "Reverie" is for sale! Features extremely strong, 100% prop-less mentalism effects! "Secret Files" is NOW AVAILABLE directly through me. Contains the EASIEST DAY FOR ANY DATE version!!! |

This is going to get a bit boring, but without a doubt The Alchemist Tools. There are so many wonderful insights in it that can help performance and presentation skills. This is my favourite of all Paul Brook's publications.

Count me as one who was underwhelmed with Alchemical Tools. Perhaps his other books are better.

The Gift is my favorite of his.
Good Vibrations is OK. It's essentially just a good example of combining some classic methods with the lessons from The Gift. It's a well explained, single effect with cards. I'm of the opinion that I can never see enough examples of ***show scripting, so I like it a lot in that respect. If I was more inclined to use cards, I'd probably think more of it.

I have all of PBs work.
Good vibrations does use techniques that you all know, but hey that means you have nothing to learn. The effect is dynamite and I say you should get it. It is hard to pick a favourite as I have gotten something worth more than what I paid from each item I have got. Good Vibrations - Strong 20/30min effect Brook Test - Clean impromptu book test of any word on a page The Gift - The best techniques ideas and subtleties for PS I have ever come across On Mephistos Shoulder - Some amazingly original thinking and a great switching device Alchemical Tools - Essential reading for everyone and amazing value for money Thought Reader Card - Very clean one card version of a Mental Yarn style effect but where the spectator remains silent throughout the entire process. You Know Who - Great way to demonstrate what it is you do to a new person or client. All with one card and it never fails. Locked In Thought - Sincerely one of the best purchases I have ever made in menatlism. It is always with you, can be checked for forever, never fails and is open to so many presentations. Those are my thoughts on each product. I would also add that PB has a way of writing that is very easy to read and he leaves nothing out. Hope this helps you to make a decision. |
