Another great oil and water the “X” on VAL DEES by Scott Guinn
Scott Guinn has an excellent oil and water routine. It’s a three part routine and you can do any part separately or combine them. I like the first part where you show the red cards traveling to the black pack one by one and when you turn the pack over they all turn back to black very visual magic.

Hmm, this looks good but I have never heard of a Jordan Count.

In the routine Scott uses a Jordon Count best bet here is Jerry Mentzer's Counts, Cuts, Moves & Subtlety book a great book at a low price.Favorite dealer or Magic Methods ( http://www.magicmethodsonline.com )Jerry's site. Can be found in Card College V-2.
He also uses a Stanyon Count (Commonly called a 3
as 4 Elmsley Count). A little more explanition is given here in Secret Sessions

Hope the link works.

These moves are easy and the routine is well worth it.

Thanks Leo, although I am sure he teaches it in the download. I have a good O and W routine but uses the RS principle.

I am always happy to help anyone with learning my routines. If you need a move explained or have a question, just shoot me an email or PM.

Oil and Water effect using Stipper cards makes the performance self working.

True enough, but alos doesn't allow anyone but you to touch the cards, and would not help much for some parts of my routine.

I know I like Oil and Water effects because they don't require a lot of heavy sleights just some false counts and add-ons.Might have something to do with starting in magic in the early seventies era of the Packet tricks.

But if R&S work for you that's cool.Wonder is this R&S trick something you made up or is it put out by someone else?

If you can get around an action which looks like a pull-apart - congrats.

I still think Anthony Owen's version is the most magical looking:

I have. It is easy, looks like Owen's, and has the whole-deck kicker. Cards can not be handed out. John

Guinn's effect is wonderful: I have it too. But I just thought I would point out an effect by Aldo Colombini called "Tossed Salad." It's on one of his DVD (everything from him costs $10). It's great in that it uses all ordinary cards which can be taken from any deck. You use more cards than the spectator expects so you can't hand them out immediately when when done, but by taking them from the deck and then putting them back casually when you're done and moving on to another effect, the spectator will never suspect "trick cards," which of course, they are not anyway.

Is that the one on Mr Colombini's Essential DVD It looks pretty good.
Trying to get Mr. Colombini to put out a DVD of just oil and water routines read somewhere he collects them.

Yes Mr. Owens Oil and Water looks great. Is that the same oil and water as in his book "Some Tricks" with looks like it worth buying?

Hi Leo,

My new Ultimate Oil and Water DVD features the SOBW routine from my Some Tricks book and now unavailable Dynamic Walkaround DVD. However it also features several new handlings and improvements. One of these has never been explained in print or on video before and until now has only been taught to those who have attended my live lectures. Another of the improvements featured on the new DVD has never been released to anyone ever.

Thanks for your interest in my work.

Best,

Anthony

Aldo has a number of excellent routines in his book "What's Up Deck". My favorite uses only eight cards. Also, the "Oil and Water Rides Again" from Skinner's book is actually Aldo's routine. I explained the history behind that effect elswhere on The Café. That's a beautiful routine.

Mine was designed to be kind of a little card "act" all unto itself. It borrows heavily from other sources, which I credit in the instructions. I have another O&W routine in my upcoming book "A Little Something" which I hope to have on my site in the next week or so.

Try putting pressure on Jon Racherbaumer instead, I think the collection may be greater...

Scott, I didn't see you mention C.O.W? Do you not like this effect anymore?
