Hi Dave!!!,
Cardology (sorry my mistake to mistype with Cardologi) principle a.k.a. Clock Effect principle basically a mathematical method to force 13th card (for sample=2 of Clubs) from a pile/deck of cards. an audience select a number between 1-12 (for sample=3), then she removes 3 cards from that pile. you deal 12 cards 1 by 1 reversing their order to make a new pile. the 2 of clubs (force card) now at 3rd from the top of new pile. if she removes 5 cards, the force card will be at 5th. I learned that from "Temple C. Patton's Card Tricks Anyone Can Do"; this book is a great source for mathematical & non sleight card tricks, later I found John Bannon, Larry Becker etc (sorry I cann't recall them all) cleverly use this principle in their great tricks. Paul Harris uses (i think) this principle in "Overkill", but he uses more than 12 cards. also you can find at: http://littleegyptmagic.com/ a free trick (password protected) uses this principle, the title is "Fields' Zodiac Card Miracle". please CMIIW. regards, r1238ex |

My favorite math principle trick has got to be Degrees of Freedom by John Bannon. It's crazy. It blows me away everytime I do it.

What is the effect of "Degrees of Freedom"? I don't know that trick.
The Gilbreath principle is really amazing but I'd have to say that the prime number principle is my favorite. I've read "card concepts" mentioned above and it is hard to imagine a better introduction to the prime number principle. JPL |

My favourite (and the only one I use) is the Gilbreath principle. The memory opener by Sal Piacente that uses it is an absolute stunner.

I came in here a normal sized human being...but thanks to ALL you guys (yeah, I read the whole thread) I am now a Mental Midget.
I use Perfect Solution as an opener and that's about as far into math that my Pea will take me...BUT...I do want to thank you all for the great tips and books to look for! As if I needed more to study up on! Truely...a great thread. Thanks. Higley

At the moment
3 card monte (should be done over the radio or telly playing listeners over 3 rounds) and 9 card problem (perhaps someone can explain why this works, I still mystify myself) use one deck of cards and have 5 spectators do it. I felt the need to add an extra word at the beginning to get the face card into position after being selected. both from impuzzibilities. Corona |
