I did it to a Girl in her early twenties and tears literally streamed down her face as she was on the verge of panicking while doing the sticking fingers waking hypnosis effect!
I calmed her and she was ok in the end... She said she cried because she was worried when she could not unstick her fingers... Strange to me, for something so simple, never happened before... She wasn't "under", she was wide awake btw... Anyone else experienced this?

I have done fingers for individuals and entire audiences over the years...literally thousands of times. I have never had that reaction or heard of it.
It does sound like she had some fears about hypnosis that were not allayed before you did the fingers. You don't have to do an entire "opening talk" but a few seconds on the most important things would have prevented this. |

It's effectively an abreaction by the sound of it. Abreactions can happen in a waking state as well as under hypnosis.
Nothing problematic as long as you know how to deal with it. RT |

It wasn't serious really, so no worries...
But as you said mota, not in any literature that I've read does it say that this simple effect can cause such an abreaction... Strange, definitely one for the books...

Pakar, I find that quite interesting. Crying is normally a subconscious response, so I wonder if you slipped in a suggestion without even realising it, such as "this can be quite profound". Also, there is a part of the brain responsible for feelings of significance, which can be specifically activated with electro-magnetic stimulation. Its thought that the area is hyperactive in people of extreme religious tendencies. It can also happen during temporal lobe epilepsy seizures (along with deja vu, feelings of a sensed presence, random memories), which most normal people have quite regularly (manifesting as moments where you may feel suddenly emotional or fragile regardless of whats going on - yet the brain rationalises it anyway). So you might have just influenced her at a moment of high emotional suggestibility.

Emotional baggage can spill over anytime. Some people burst into tears regularly with no real reason. Others have over the top emotional out bursts of anger at the slightest thing.
It sounds like to me that what she was experiencing was an overwhelming flood of emotion way out of proportion to the actual event. In other words she was accessing a gestalt of emotion. A series of past events with a similar emotion. The brain stores emotions that are similar together with the idea of going back processing the learning and letting go of the emotion. However it frequently never goes back to process the emotion so they buld up like a string of beads. The out of proportion response them accessing all the emotion from all the events at the same time. One of the reasons why many therapy systems and counselling doesn't work. They believe experiencing the emotion (regression) and reliving it releases it. All it does is add another layer to the gestalt. |

Can't remember if I did WillBox, though my regular scripted "patter" or induction doesn't include those words or leanings...
And mindpunisher, thanks for that explanation...

I have had the EXACT same thing happen, once in a casual close up situation amongst friends, and another during a stage show. The first time was with a girl in the front row of the audience.... strangely enough she WANTED to come on stage to be hypnotized... no way. I never got to speak with her after the show... The second occasion I was lucky enough to speak with the one person in the casual setting after, one on one. She really had no explination at first... then I asked her what she was thinking about right before the test began, and she opened her her eyes and said , "my Mother!" Her mother passed a year ago and she had not really spent any serious time to fully process that emotion. It was definitely the cause , and even she knew. I hope that helps, Gerard
Well then...
