What do you think is the best gimmick to appear a silk during an act, OR also vanish a silk in the middle of an act? (Body loads)

That's a trick question. (Aren't they all?) One would need to know what effect you were doing when you wanted a silk to appear or disappear. The best gimmick to use (or perhaps no gimmick at all) depends on the context of your routine.

I always opt for an appearing cane, and use the hook method or velco.

The hank ball makes an excellent vanisher. You need to plan carefully how you will pick it up and dispose of it in ways that will not reveal that you are using a gimmick.

By "universal holder", do you mean a universal ball holder? That would mnot be my first choice. I prefer a holder that does not leave the silk all wrinkly when it first appears.

Check out this thread: http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......um=54&13

Magic Ian and I both agree this is a great holder and only disagree on where to buy them cheaper! The silk is not all wrinkly when produced. However, it may not fit your style of performance.

The term "universal Utility Clip" is an item in my magic line since the 70's, widely copied by some lecturers (Danny T***)who even sells it to other lecturers, it holds cigarettes, jumbo coins, balls, rope, silks, spread of coins, full decks of card, and spring flower holder. Was in Tannens catalogs in the 80's and used by McBride, Burton, Gertner, and Irv Weiner to name a few. Simple but versatile. It is in my catalog http://www.tricks.ws . The spandex tube described by Spellbinder and myself is merely a lecture item for me, although I include it in a few tricks I produce.

Try the invisible hand. It's a hold out and on the DVD he has an instant vanish of a silk. the guy lays the silk on top of a volunteers hand and he touches the silk and its gone. Very visual.

I am tossing the silk into my jacket in this video clip (about halfway), I don't even have a topit but I suggest one for a nice silk vanish.
I have a special technique for tossing a silk.

and Thom, the trick is good for your balloon work.
