Should a magician purchase certain kinds of silks or will any silks do the job?

If you want inexpensive silks, you can go to any magic shop and get them in any size and color, or printed with various designs.
If you want high quality silks, go to pasilks.com they have really nice silks, but you are paying extra for the high quality quality.

High quality silk is only essential for certain effects where they are highly compressed, like with a silk winder, and you want them to appear unwrinkled when they are magically produced.

Every silk effect has different needs. 20th Century and Blendo should be made with heavier silk 8 momme or more. If you are compressing it tightly, you want a 6 momme. Some cane effects work best with 5 momme.
Make sure you get pure silk. Silk/poly blends do not compress and open as well as real silk. The heavier the silk the more saturated the color will appear as there are more thread to hold the dye (more or less). It will hold up longer also. Read some of the other posts on here as there is a lot of information on selecting silks. Hope this helps. Richard
