How many times have you typed out a response and before clicking submit, you thought better of it? I ask because there have been many times I spoke and wished I had not. This forum gives us the opportunity to think about it for a moment. How many of you take advantage of that?
Any how many posts could be added to your count if this forum were included in your count total?

I would guess at least 500. Now, don't get me wrong: I seldom, if ever, write a hostile post, so it's not because I just decided to wait and cool down. I just wasn't satisfied that I was saying anything worthwhile.
The real mystery is why I ever thought that the 2000+ other posts were worthwhile. If I spent too much time re-considering...well, I wouldn't post anything at all. |

I've deleted many posts before sending them...many.
Even if it's just two or three lines I read it a few times (checking spelling, grammar, tone, etc.) then I hit 'Post'. I can't think of any posts I regret really. Think before you speak, treat people respectfully and take nothing personally. Works for me... |

Uncountable times. So many times I've types out a response and then said to myself: "You know, this just isn't worth it..."

Very few, it may not be for the best but I tend to say what I think.
Our friends don't have to agree with me about everything and some that I hold very dear don't have to agree about anything, except where we are going to meet them for dinner.

BTW, in answer the the second question, all you have to do is use the search engine. The search engine counts all your posts, not just the ones in forums that count.
I have 2,121 posts in the Nots forum. Wait! I have 2,122 including this one. |

I frequently type a response, then decide that I'd rather just keep out of the discussion. Once or twice, my post has garnered a response before I got a chance to delete it.

Maybe two. Not for the reasons others do so, I usually will say "forget it, this idiot won't get it anyway".
Email is dangerous though, I've seen people click and send and it turn out baaaad. At my last job, where I was not exactly welcomed, I knew what was up because I sent an email and one of the people on it responded to the others about "we'll eventually get rid of this guy, don't worry" and, oops, forgot to remove my name. I, of course, responded back that I was sure they would eventually get rid of me. |

Very few, it may not be for the best but I tend to say what I think. I'm a bit like Tom, I'm afraid. Recently however I have been thinking 'Why buy in?' and not pressing 'Submit'. Just minutes ago I figuratively bit my tongue after reading the pseudo intellectual blathering of some pompous name dropping heir to Le Petomane. His attempt at a common touch with an allusion to drinking reminded me that Jeff can still type more intelligent and reasoned, not to mention intelligible, posts after a 3 day bender. I can't see the point in arguing with people who simply have not got a clue. There are one or two notable exceptions however where I can't resist the mischief. I do sometimes just sit out the more confrontational threads where I disagree with my friends. I don't think it's dishonest. I am the same in real life - I do not get into heated conversations with my friends over things we disagree on, and have next to no ability to impact on anyway. Destiny |

Many times. Even though I carefully consider and compose each post as thoughtfully as I can before hitting submit...like others above, I just decide to not buy in. I also got very weary of attempting to explain what I think to those who don't think at all and just knee jerk an agenda they assume they should follow.
Im wondering, after thinking about this thread, how much we have missed when really thoughtful people don't bother to opt in...opinions that may have made a difference in my or your thinking. I'm not one of those who hides from thinking I may not agree with nor do I want to be cheated of it because the true thinkers get gun shy and keep their opinions to themselves.

I agree with Destiny even though I don't know La Potomane is! If I don't agree with some I like I'll just not partake rather than aiding those against that person.

Just recently I wrote what some might consider a controversial post, but when I clicked on the submit button my ISP stalled out and the post didn't go through. I took this as a sign and didn't resubmit it. After thinking about it some more, I'm now glad I didn't post it. Thank you, God.
I'll soon be ending all of my posts with "nuff said."

I may have not made my point, again. There have been a great many post that I had considered responding to, but chose not to because: A. Someone made my point better than I could have. B. It was pointless to respond because my post would fall on deaf ears. C. I did not believe my post would be of any benefit to anyone that might read it. D. I felt it was just not worth my time to post my thoughts because it take me so darn long to peck out anything using two fingers, so believe me if I take the time to type it will be posted.
I agree very much with Doug about many of my friends being here. Some of them may not even realize that I consider them as such, because we have opposing opinions, but I enjoy reading there posts and learn much. There have been many debates here, with all sides trying to persuade the others to think like they do, me included but that is what makes a great debate. The sharing of ideas, pointing out things forgotten and questioning these ideas and opinions is for me, very stimulating. Sometimes we become so stimulated we end up calling some one a poopy head but does anyone really get hurt by such an out burst, no! So please let the banter flow and the uncensored conversation grow here where we like to come and spend some of our time with our friends.
Our friends don't have to agree with me about everything and some that I hold very dear don't have to agree about anything, except where we are going to meet them for dinner.
