So UFC 95 Diego Sanchez vs Joe Stevenson will be free on Spike tonight becuase the event is in London. Well... I was going to post some predictions, but when I went to wikipedia to copy and past the fight cards, I realized that they already had the winners listed under them. So no point in doing that... lol Luckily I only saw the result of one fight. So only 1 spoiler heh.
I'll just say I don't like Sanchez. He's a cocky prick IMO. I thought his losses would have humbled him a bit but apparently not. I don't think Joe will beat him, I don't think he'll be able to catch Sanchez in a choke. The only fight I am interested in is Stephan Stuve (sp?) vs Junior dos Santos. Struve is the same height as tim sylvia, but in shape lol. I think it's a bit of a rough welcome into the UFC his first fight being agaist Junior dos Santos. But then again I am just going from Santos' performance against Werdum, who I think was over rated in the same way Soukoudjou was.

I thought I was the only one who was bothered by Sanchez.

It was actually a great card, despite the lack of "star power". Spike TV showed 9 of the 10 fights (other than one undercard fight that went to a decision) and there were some great TKO's and KO's.
Demian Maia is phenomenal and a great voice for the sport. I do think they stopped Josh Koscheck's fight a bit early. I do believe that the ref saved Koscheck from any further damage but Josh is a veteran now and another couple of punches would have satisfied me (especially ones that land really hard to Josh's face). Stephan Stuve was totally outclassed being in there with Dos Santos. He took a huge step backwards in competition fighting Stuve after beating Werdum but he looks legit. As far as Diego goes, he is very very strange and most of the time when he is being interviewed, everyone in the crowd boos him. LOL. That's got to make him feel good. In other words, both Danny and Joey's feelings towards Diego are shared by many of the MMA fans. Yea he is a great fighter but....

I never cared much for Sanchez either. Like Danny I thought it might just be me, but now I'm thinking it may be universal. lol!
Agree with Mark. I thought it was a great night of fights. My only complaint was that a few of the bouts were stopped a little quickly. I'm in favor of protecting fighters, of course, but you have to let a guy finish and get that decisive win. If for no other reason than to keep guys from claiming they were fine when they were one or two strikes from being put away completely. Koscheck was rocked but by ending it then he was able to recover and claim he was fine. He wasn't fine and two more punchs would have proved that without question. All in all a good night, especially for a free event. Looking foward to some more in the future. Free WEC event on the 1st of March. Mike Brown defending, looking foward to that. Jardine/Rampage the following week. Does anyone know what's up with the upcoming Carlos Condit fight? I thought he was to fight Brock Larsen and I was looking foward to it, then I saw a commercial last night and they listed a different opponenet? Is Larsen hurt? P.S. Totally agree about Demian Maia. So impressive. I love the technical aspects of this sport, and he's got em in spades. So dangerous. That was great.

I think the stopping it when a person has a decisive advantage is what is going on.
Dana White BRAGS and for good reason mind you, that there has never been a serious injury, or a death in a UFC ring. The stopping early, the extra rules and stuff is what took the Gracie family out of the sport as a matter of fact. The 2 punches IF the guy can not defend himself can be BRUTAL. Undefended punches, even one or two, can cause SERIOUS damage, especially in the long run. It is a fine line to walk to protect the fighters and to entertain the crowd.

He got signed to the UFC a couple of weeks ago and they are already going to test him. His first opponent in the UFC is Martin Kampmann. Kampman has only lost once in the UFC (twice overall) and that was to Nate Marquardt. Kampmann also is the only guy to beat Thales Leites (the guy who is fighting Anderson Silva next for the title). You will get to see how good Condit really is. If he gets past Kampmann by KO or submission, you'll see him get another big fight and then probably a title shot. I can't wait for this fight.

For some reason, there is that little devil sitting on my shoulder whispering in my ear "Yes, another punch or two can really do some damage, but it is Josh Koscheck getting punched and it will look much cooler on the highlight reel". In other words, my fondness for Koscheck is at the same level as our fondness of Diego Sanchez.

Maia's next fight better be against a top 5 middle weight, then if he wins that a title shot. Maybe have him fight Nate or Palhares next for a title shot.

I just watched those fights and I was wondering why the hell wasn't Stuve throwing any strikes. With his range he should have been throwing leg kicks, and head kicks.
Maia's sub was very well executed. His stand up does need some work. If he had been fighting Silva, when he threw that leg kick, Silva would have caught it just like against James Irvin heh. If Thiago had moved in right after dropping Koscheck, I wouldn't have thought it was stopped early. But he just stood there looking at him. Josh's head was back, arms kind of limp after he was dropped. Just before the ref moved in, he brought his legs back up, lifted his head and arms back up. He was defending again. Look at what Dan did in the fight with Santos and Stuve. He was dropped, he moved in, paused to take a closer look, then stopped it.

Yes, he may have taken a guard position just out of instinct but I think the delay allowed him to clear a few cobwebs and it was iffy stopping it at that instant. If I recall the ref came from behind Thiago so maybe the last thing he saw before he jumped in was Kos' eyes rolled back in his head, falling down. I know Dana is concerned about safety. But I thought he was just miffed at Mario Yamasaki for stopping a few fights too quickly in a recent event. I'm not really complaining. It's a bang-bang call.
