Sounds great! I saw the first run of this at the Biograph Theatre in Chicago. Will this be the same show or a different show?

Ashah, it was good to meet you at the show. Thanks for taking the time to introduce yourself and say "hi"!
Opening night was lots of fun! It was nice to welcome everyone to our new home at the Greenhouse Theater Center. The theater was packed, and the standing-room-only audience had a great time. One lovely woman named Sonya, who joined us on stage to assist in performing the final feat of magic of the evening, declared The Magic Cabaret to be “the best show ever!” And did I mention the standing ovation? If you're planning a visit to the Windy City, we hope you'll plan to catch the show! Go to http://www.magic-cabaret.com for info and tickets! It sure was a fun night! I had never heard of David Parr or PT Murphy before reading this thread about a week ago. I happened to be in the Chicago area and thought I'd stop by.
My non-magician girlfriend and I have seen Supernatural Chicago, the Mystery Lounge (several times), and other shows. All were a good time, but I have to say that we enjoyed the Magic Cabaret most of all. There was plenty of great magic, and both gentlemen generated almost non-stop laughter... except of course during PT's suspenseful needle-swallowing act. The guest magician David Kovac was a riot, not to mention very likeable. His act was possibly our favorite part of the show. There was a full audience -- tickets were sold out in advance of the show (we almost didn't get tickets!) and every seat was occupied. The magicians were fortunate to have a great mix of volunteers, some of whom were quite a bit of fun! As David mentioned, the finale generated quite a stir that led right into a standing ovation. As we filtered out of the theater, a crowd of spectators were still looking at the final prediction in complete disbelief. I highly recommend the show. All three of the performers were skilled magicians and actors. The show was very well scripted but felt dynamic, as they responded well to the audience's reactions and had some great one-liners. And of course, there was classic magic: cards effects, sleight of hand, a magic square, a multi-phase prediction, just to name a few -- a really solid mix. Go see it... it is fun! |

Chicagolanders are lucky to have both the Murphy/Parr show and the Neil Tobin show.

I saw The Magic Cabaret this past Wednesday. I really had a great time. Both David Parr and P.T. Murphy and their guest for the week, Joe Diamond are wonderful magicians. My favorite parts of the show were Joe's mental effect with the celebrity name, David Parr's version of Powers of Darkness and P.T. Murphey's version of the Needle Illusion.
I won't give away the ending of the show. But the last piece of the show really freaked out my wife, who for the record LOVED IT! (And this from the woman who made me sell my Abbott's props.) I think I have figured out SOME of what they did in the last piece but there are a few things I haven't figured out about the end. If any of you know what I am talking about PM me. We can talk about it. All in all a great evening of magic. I love Chicago!!! P.S. Hey! Whwhat is the Neil Tobin Show? I don't think I have seen that one. |

Neil Tobin's show is called Supernatural Chicago.
It is a bit "darker" than your standard magic show -- for this reason, I found it a bit less fun than shows like the Magic Cabaret, but there's a uniqueness and novelty factor that I enjoyed. Definitely worth seeing at some point, whether you're a visitor or local. I don't remember too much about it, but I recall that it was Chicago-themed and there was a PK Touches presentation that I enjoyed. |

Oh I did see this! I forgot the performer's name. Yes, it was a little on the spooky side.
Saw another chicago magic show in a church, in some part of the northside. I won't name it. I was really embarassed at the amatuer treatment they gave it. Plus we spent almost 30 minutes looking for parking. This was the reason my wife didn't want to go see The Magic Cabaret. But, the Magic Cabaret show was so good and the magicians were actually likeable people, that it made up for how bad the other one was. The Magic Cabaret saved my marriage!!! LOL! |

I love living in Chicago. It has such a great magic history. And so many performers.
I just got an e-mail that this April 1st, Ron Fitzgerald will be at the Magic Cabaret. This dude is FREAKY! I got a special ticket offer that I think only goes to their mailing list, I don't want to get in trouble by mentioning it. Go to their website to get on the list. http://www.magic-cabaret.com |

Next up, on April 8, is guest performer Sean Masterson, whom I've known since way back in the Mystery School days, when folks lived in caves and made tea cozies from pebbles and twigs.
