I just got this book as well, it is pretty good! I like it alot! But I have to say, it is kind of hard for me to learn from books sometimes (like the Waterfall Flourish)....
I prefer DVDs but this book definitely has a lot of stuff for a very good price!!

Thanks for speaking slowly. I always have trouble understanding the normal posts because people type too quickly.

Mark Wilson's Course is still one of the greatest books in magic.

Don't forget Joshua Jay's new offerring with DVD. I have Mark Wilson's Course, The Tarbell Course, and Now You See It Now You Don't. Joshua Jay's is more of a modern treatsie and full of credits and facts.

Ok, I got today my Complete Course in Magic book. I bought it (an used one but in great condition) through amazon (real bargain). It's an excellent book full of information that covers a lot of areas. Now I need time to dig into it.
Thanks a lot for your help. P. Figueira |

Mark Wilson's Complete Course in Magic is a good choice indeed. Never heard of the Street Magic books, but I nowadays avoid the name street magic as much as I can..

It looks unanimous for "complete course". Josh Jay's Complete course is a very good choice as well (though perhaps not as "complete" as Mark Wilson's). The combination of both of those books will get you off to a very good start.

I don't have Mark Wilson's book, but I really like Street Magic. It has a lot of basic yet fun effects, they're clearly explained, and it has a nice variety of different types of effects, and although it is about 35-50% card magic, not all of the card tricks require serious skill. Either way, I definately recommend it for any begginers.

Hi… I am pretty much in the Mark Wilson camp as far as its recommendation goes. Besides DCJames, has anyone else read “Mysterio’s Encyclopedia of Magic and Conjuring?” I picked it up in January of this year and rate it pretty good. There are a few things in there that you don’t find in Mark Wilson’s book.
Best of luck to you all, Bruce |

The street magic book is good, in a sense in that it does focus on an important and overlooked aspect of magic for the beginner -and that is presentation. The tricks are ok. Complete Course has more and probably better, and it will give you a more comprehensive education in the methods of magic. But if you want to be a cool magician, ala David Blaine -the street magic book will give you some pointers. Presentation is the key to successful magic, and this book will point you in the direction you want to go.

Glad you've changed your mind. I think Zennon's book is rather good. However as with everyone else, for the beginner I'd recommend Mark Wilson with Zennon's book something to progress to some time afterwards.
I'm also a big fan of the Tarbell course. Another excellent, considerably cheaper (than Tarbell) book that helped me a lot when I was a beginner, was a book by Henry Goss called 'Pure Magic'. Probably out of print, but if you see it anywhere snap it up. The written descriptions and superb photos are so good, they really helped me a lot once upon a time.
