Just curious if everyone does this just like in the book, or has anyone varied the presentation. I have run into some problems with people not being able to spell their cards right!! I stop and they say, no, don't stop, I have a few more letters left.....I think.

Kinda ruins it!

Thinking about some modifications.

Yep, that is indeed the problem. In my language you have different names for the same cards. Some people say ' three of hearts' other say 'hearts three'. The Queen is another problem. Some call her Queen, others prefer Lady. There're both correct here, but not for this trick.

I guess you could just do a count, and disguise it as using your mental telepathy powers to "feel" which is their card. Then a marked deck would probably be suspected.

Do it just like in the book. Don't modify it.

The only problem I've encountered with spelling so far is when people preface their spelling with 'The' , so they spell 'the four of hearts' instead of just 'four of hearts'.

I've tried to avoid referencing my example card with a 'the' to try to help them miss it too.

I guess you guys overlooked one of the reasons why you spelled the Nine of Diamonds before the actual silent spelling procedure. Not only does it accomplish the necessary displacement, but this gives you the chance to subtly guide them on how to properly(!) spell cards...

If I remembered correctly, John Bannon actually mention that in the book.

Cheers!

This is one of those rare tricks where I will actually carry an extra deck, it's that strong.

Yeah I think in the Bullet After Dark, he mentioned the importance of the spelling of "Nine of Diamonds" as it would do the replacement and guide them how they should spell it correctly.

I'm sure it won't be a big problem for most of us here as you guys live in an English-speaking country. Down here, it would be a bit tough especially if they don't speak good English. So I never try this trick.
