I'm planning to buy this DVD. How are the things taught in this DVD? Practical? Hard? Please give a review if you have it. Thanks.

Lee Asher stuff is great! Get it!! The stuff in it is card stuff. Get it if you are real interested in Cards. It's a combination of some great card effects and some nice card flourishes.
It's a nice DVD overall. Get it and you will not regret it. Symmatrix

What people seem to mostly like about this DVD (beside its content) is its format. Instead of the traditional show a trick then teach a trick magic video, Lee Asher's Five Card Stud is film like a movie, which makes it MUCH more entertaining to watch than many other videos.
My 2 cents. Ronnie Lemieux Montreal Canada

There are some fun card tricks which are well explained* if you can keep from laughing.
The acting is absolutely awful and really detracts from some of the tricks. Lee, please don't do any more of this type. Asher Twist is much better format, quick and to the point. *Joking around was a bit vague for my taste. |

Lee has a refreshing approach to magic combining it with his love of movies.
He is very skilled and a heck of a nice guy. I enjoyed the movie and watch it again from time to time. I liked Joking Around.Easy to do fun routine gets a good reaction and the spectator gets a souvenir. Some of his sleights are worthwile having a look at as well. Chappelly |

I bought Lee's DVDs/VHS, DBD PDF/Videos and have yet to be disappointed. I cant wait for his new DVD (any release date yet?). To answer you question, a lot of Lees stuff is visual and very usable. |

The video is very fun to watch.
The tricks inside are practical, visual, original and creative, but the teaching is not quite good. |

I haven't seen this one yet but I did buy "The Losin' Control" and was subjected to Lee's parody of "Reservoir Dogs" (or something). Completely cringeworthy in a way that made me feel embarrassed for Lee. The acting was sub-par high school play level and I resented being subjected to it in order to learn the control. In fact, there was a lot more of Lee's amateurish movie hijinks than actual teaching of the move on the CD and I felt ripped off. I wrote to Lee expressing my concerns and never received a reply.
I wish that these young magicians would just stick with the magic and forget these pointless, extraneous exercises in fields (acting, writing, directing, video editing) where they have no discernable talent- and making us pay for it to boot! Lee is a talented magician but would learn much from the old dictum, K.I.S.S.! |

On the other side of that coin there are plenty of people that do enjoy the mini movies in his DVD's.

WHAT?????????
Y'all gotta be kidding me. I love Lee's approach to instructional magic... I'll much rather watch that than L&L's over the shoulder teaching with the SAME CLASSICAL music in the background. (although I love those over the shoulder angle) How about stop being so uptight and have some fun?

It's about feeling ripped off. Four minutes of instruction for $25.00!? I didn't pay money to see juvenile on-screen antics- I can turn on SNL and see that for free- and the CD ROM was not marketed as "Mostly Movie Parody with a little magic instruction thrown in". Sure, the move is decent enough but the instruction was perfunctory at best. I'm sorry, but feeling ripped off somewhat dampens my sense of "fun".
How about not condoning a lack of ethical responsibility in magic marketing ? |

Wow, ripped off, that's a very strong word to pin on someone.
It doesn't matter if he has four mins. of instruction or 4 hours. It is his perogative to sell his product at whatever price he feels. If you "didn't pay money to see juvenile antics-" why did you? Did you do any investigating about the product? You can only get the Losing Control CD Rom from Lee and his add explains exactly what you're getting. Please stop by his site to read for yourself,(www.leeasher.com) Speaking of ripped off, you said you can watch SNL for free? How is that, don't you have a cable bill? Jason |

I agree....Half the fun is watching the bad acting...I also agree he could have spent a little more time on the explanations.... ..

I felt ripped off compared to other one trick CDs on the market. Its a legitimate yardstick and it's a yardstick by which Losin' Control fails to measure up to the competition. Had it been $7.50 it would have been fine. I bought it on the strength of the demo video that was linked here and I checked out his website. On his website it states:
"That is not your standard magic instructional video. It's an instructional magic movie. Approximately 11 minutes in length, you are taught the basic control and three other useful variations. There is no fluff, only what you NEED to perform the control." He claims 11 mins. When you take out the non magic instruction it is a little over four mins. That's misleading. He says an "instructional magic movie". That doesn't tell you that there is 7 mins of non magic footage that is worthless from a pedagological point of view. I don't see how he can claim "There is no fluff, only what you NEED to perform the control." with a straight face!? No, I don't think rip-off is too strong. I wrote Lee a polite letter pointing out my dissatisfaction and never received the courtesy of a reply. Compared to other merchants here and elsewhere that I deal with, that is crappy customer service. He didn't fix his ad or drop his price and so he apparently is just happy to take the money. So I do feel ripped off. I like his other products and feel they are more reasonably priced but this one and his apparent unconcern left a very bad taste in my mouth. Also SNL appears on saturday nights on out local NBC affiliate channel four- no cable bill necessary. |

You bought it on the strength of the video. You wanted to learn the control... The CD teaches it, so what's the problem? You're not paying for the length you're paying for the effect. You pay more money for less with gimmicks. Surely the extra footage is giving you more for your money!

For $25 bucks I expect more than four minutes of perfunctory explanation. Real world advice, spectator management, applications etc. none of which were extant on the video. The video advertised 11 mins- I got 4. I've bought many other one trick CDs at the same price point and got a lot more for my money. Had I known how little I got for the money, I would not have bought it. I already "learned" the control as it was exposed on the demo. I was expecting more. I got less.
That's the problem. I'm glad you felt you got your money's worth. I now know who to market to when I sell my overpriced one trick DVDs. |

I must admit that I'm a bit shocked at your guys just buckling under to deceptive marketing and accepting overpriced teaching materials. Does Lee Asher run some sort of cult? Anyway, I'm exercising my right as a consumer to sound off at something I found ethically suspect and way overpriced compared to the other similar products. If more of you guys did the same then perhaps we wouldn't be played for suckers as much as we are in the current magic marketplace.
