I knew "Del" when I was a kid, growing up in New York City. He was a student of Jeff Sheridan and he was a GREAT card manipulator. "Del" was the only person that I've known that could do the double one-handed waterfall, absolutely amazing!

At the time, he and his family were living in an apartment in the lower east side of Manhattan. He spent a lot of time with Jeff Sheridan and was a great card manipulator. I remember Del, Jon Evans and I were hanging out with Sanada at the 1983 IBM convention in Hawaii. Sanada taught us his 360 degree card fan. The following week "Del" was able to do it with regular cards, jumbo cards and paper bills. The man had an amazing ability to learn sleight of hand. He also preferred to use rare uncut Tenyo fanning decks that he got especially from Japan. On stage Del was a tall, thin and handsome Latin gentleman, who did a kind of jewel thief act with coins, bill, jewels and the multiplication of the cloth bags that commonly contain jewelery. Also the thing I remember was that he was also a great dancer. I did not go to his wedding, but a friend who did told me that at the reception Del did a ballroom dance routine with a lady dancer that was incredible. At any rate, I think the last time I saw him was about 20 years ago. I had heard that he was out of magic and really into weight lifting and martial arts. For a time he was a bouncer at some nightclubs in New York and then I heard that he became a wrestler. That Youtube clip really surprised me and it shows me how much he had changed over the years. Oh, another "Del" Rios story popped into my mind.
You know that move that Juliana Chen does, where the cards are held in the hand and flicked out so that they fly through the air. Well "Del" showed me that exact same move in 1985. "Del" didn't tell me where he got it, but I suspected that it was something that Jeff Sheridan had showed him. I have always assumed that Ms. Chen had either figured out the move by herself or learned it while growing up in the PRC. To my mind it is one of many examples of people independently coming up with similar ideas. Levent

I'm not a pro-wrestling buff but it makes one wonder why he only wrestled one time. The gimmick had potential. (and it was hillarious)

I actually worked with Doug Bashem on similar concept but Vince nixed it.

If Jeff was a wrestler hmm... No contest! Jeff would simply either cause the opponent to vanish or he would do what he does best, roll his opponent into a ball and do a manipulation routine before his victory! lol
