I have both of these, and all I can say is that they are both wonderful. Don't make a choice and buy both. But if that is not a viable option, then you really have to explore what sort of presentation you are going to make. I find the Spirit Bell to be more appropriate for communicating with lighter spirits, like those of children. For more serious and masculine spirits (e.g., Houdini), I think the Spirit Telegraph would be better to use.

What would you suggest for accidentally summoning the wicked spirit of Astaroth Johnny Boy?

Spiritus Magnus! But seriously, of the two, I think the ominous and simple "click" of the telegraph circuit closing is more appropriate for a wic ed spirit than the tinkling of a crystal bell. But that is just me, of course, and others may have better reasons for chooing Dead Ringer for the accidental summoning. I just don't think I would get very worked up as a sitter if a supposedly wicked spirit was ringing a delicate crystal bell. Too dissonant for me.

Oh, for the Spirit Telegraph! I am going to put an idea that has been going around in my head about a good story line for using ST. Look for it in Secret Sessions...

JAlenS- Of course, I wasn't being definitive, just sharing my thoughts. I don't have a Dead Rap, and am not sure about getting one. I've seen a thread or two but still don't really have a good idea on whether to puchase one. With the "less is more" concept in mind, a simple loud rap or two, at the right time, when everyone is tensely waiting for some sign of Astaroth, could be quite the ticket. Could someone with Dead Rap weigh in?

Dead Rap is a killer device. Very frightening indeed, a creepy but powerful tool. I don't think anyone would regret purchasing one. I have really scared people with it. It's hugely effective.

Actually I have Dead Rap, I just wanted to see your thoughts on it. Although it's very good two of them would be even better...raps coming from different places. Tim Wisseman explains that sometimes spirits operate on differing frequencies...

I'm looking at getting both Dead Ringer and Dead Rap to add to my routine.
I use various props in my seance routines, including a modified 'crasher' in a oujia board to shatter the glass on the board. I also use a shamens table in the routine - sometimes across the floor or sometimes with a candle on to 'shake'. Depending on the mood of the routine I also sometimes use my Losander table. Ive been after a spirit bell for ages now and I'm totally sold on this one. I fancy combining it with dead rap (either upstairs or in another room) to ask for a physical sign after establishing contact via the bell. You get the idea of my routines.. Does anyone know if there is a retailer in the UK? I know the hocus pocus site says its exclusive but didn't know if there was a uk outlet for hocus pocus. do Davenports stock them? Or alternatively anyone wanting to sell these items on second hand in the UK. I know its unlikely as these are top notch items so why would you seel them on but hey.. who knows. If not I'm gonna look at getting them direct !

You could do an entire show with just those two - Dead Rap & Dead Ringer. You should also check out the Spiritus thread.

As you may know -- I am very cash poor - but stage prop rich since I can no longer travel to do my big shows. In offering my sales lists in the "Lets make a deal" sections here on the Café -- I Have left myself open to trades for things that will fit the new seance where I can perform sitting down.
I have traded my way into the bell, the detector and the telegraph. I already had the falling picture and "talking" candle flame...as well as gobs of mentalism. I strongly admire and recommend almost anything made by Tim Wiseman. It is not "elegant" magic like Nick Ruggiero (Collector's Workshop's former owner) makes -- it is simple, useful, durable and most important believable. The only problem I had was immediately taken care of by Tim --a conflict in my various mechanisms trigger mechanisms was quickly erased. Each can be a proof of a spirit's existence. Or each can stand alone in function --. All operate in the light which is a plus -- and none need an assistant on the payroll. I am hoping to the Spiritus Magnus from Outlaw soon -- a joint project that includes Tim in the construction of the prop. And this too has a bell. If you think only as a magician wanting one prop for one effect -- then comparing each prop has its merit on size of audience. But if you are looking to run a venue that is a seance -- take out a portable seance to places some of the people may be repeaters -- I would suggest the more expensive (and slower because of it) route of getting one of each. If you must start with just one -- the Spiritus Magnus has multi functions, or if size matters more -- I suggest the bell as having the broadest range. The telegraph is more intimate unless you can present it as seen on U tube using an audience volunteer to freek out.

I will comment on the wonderful service Tim has offered me - I came up with a customized request for Dead Ringer (an on/off switch, so as to not drain the batteries too much, and to allow for freedom of movement without the unit accidentally going off) and not only did he agree, but suggested a few options, easily accepted my payment (same as the retail store, but for custom arrangements!) and will do it up right away!
A gentleman, and certainly a helping hand, no matter what you get from Tim it'll be well worth it! Lee |

I totally and absolutely agree with you, espmagic.
I have a number of Tim's items, and each one is superb in it's own right. I would dearly love to meet him in person someday to thank him for them but, alas, this will probably never happen. Whenever I see anything with Tim's name on it, then I know it's going to be of the utmost sheer quality ! BOBBY THOMSON.

If money was not an issue I would get everything that Tim and Outlaw have maade Love that type of effect. Also if anyone has any of those effects they would consider selling...Thanks
