Title: Foresight by Devin Knight
Medium: Routine with most required material, written instructions Arena: Mentalism, stage and close up Available: Any shop, distributed by Murphys Magic Supplies I like Devin Knights material. I want to learn mentalism and Devin releases material that, to me, are some of the only stand up mental routines really available to the magic market in general. By this I mean you have a lot of close up effects and small group routines but not the stuff you will want to do for a large audience. The material takes some studying and you will want to make sure you have the scripting down because you often need to phrase statements a very specific way. Devin does a great job explaining the thoughts behind the different aspects of the performance and why you want to make statements a certain way and explains the motivation behind actions during the routine. The instructions are in writing so ‘visual learners’ are going to be in trouble. I kind of prefer written instructions because it allows me the freedom to develop my own character rather than copying Devins character, which often happens when learning from DVDs Devin does write clearly and you can learn the material from the right up. Foresight involves predicting a card thought of by a spectator. The presentation proceeds in increments depending on the direction the spectator goes. This is a bit hard to explain but, for example, If you nail the prediction you stop there, if not you move onto phase two, if the spectator picks the card you hope they do you go in one direction, if not you go into another. This is all in the instructions and the stand up routine is very clean and I admire the thought and work that went into it not only by Devin but by some of the other performers who contributed to the foundation that Foresight is built upon. I found myself going through the scripting and thinking “dang, that is really a good idea….”. What you get when you buy Foresight is a set of typed instructions, a large special multi card picture, which I must say is very creative in itself, a small version of the picture should you want to do this close up, and a lanyard with a photo holder for you to put your prediction card in, you just pull the prediction from an old deck of cards and you are set. I do want to say that the close up version isn’t as strong as the stage version, Devin says this as well. If you want close up mentalism this might be a second choice to some of the other stuff out there designed for close up. I really liked the way this routine was set up and the laughs are inherent to the presentation. If you want a piece of mentalism that will fit in a magical presentation you may want to consider Foresight. This is for family or adult shows, I can’t see it being entertaining at all for the kids shows. Good stuff. |

I could not agree more. Foresight is a great routine by Devin Knight. And as is the case with most of his effects you do put some work in but it's always fun to do and well worth the effort.

I must admit, I have pretty much all of Devins material and so far I have only found two releases that I did not like, this being one of them.
However, Devin puts so much effort into his instrctions that you can learn so much just from his tips and subtleties. I am very glad I got this effect just for the insight Devin has into making effects into miracles. I cant wait to see what this guy comes up with next! Peace & Love Matt |

I have to admit that I like the effect, and I do use it. Foresight does generate some very good reactions. However, the "demo" video is completely misleading. Which is pretty typical now a days.
The review given by the poster is accurate on how the effect plays out. When you watch the demo, literally everything is edited out to make it look like you walk up to someone and ask them to name any card. Then you immediatly pull your lanyard from around your neck and show the named card has been in view the entire time. Once I received the effect and read through the manuscript, I had felt that I had watched an episode of Mindfreak rather than the Foresight demo. Now, luckly I found the routine to be quite practical, and extremely useable. And I certainly have gotten a lot of great mileage out of it. However, others may not feel the same way. So just a fair warning... if you think that the effect is like the demo, it is not. There is a lot more to it. |

Just got this with several others from the series, farsight, blindsight, retro-sight etc. Love this effect very brilliant thinking. There are "outs" only if the spectator messes up and forgets the suit or value. However Devin gives fantastic outs and a prediction that still is amazing. I can't wait to get through the rest of his material, I am currently reading through blindsight which also looks sick already.
The great trouble with magicians is the fact that they believe when they have bought a certain trick or piece of apparatus, and know the method or procedure, that they are full-fledged mystifiers. -- Harry Houdini
