I'm eating better than I have in years and exercising. I think that's the key to keeping it off.

Try 20 kid. I weighed 160 at 6'2" until I turned 20. Then I ballooned up to 250.
And that was even while working at a very physical job. Quote: On 2009-03-31 20:00, KidMagic wrote:

I stopped drinking soda completely. However, I have been drinking carbonated water, the flavored water. It says it has no calories, no aspartame, it is caffeine free, sodium free. It is carbonated though.
Why do you say no carbonated beverages? |

I drink the same water occasionally. I've noticed that it doesn't hydrate me as well as regular water. That might be what Justin is referring to.

As I clicked on this I wondered why you haven't posted a bump in weight gain.
And then here it is!!! it happens and I was waiting to hear you say it did. hang in there and that's why I said ditch the scale! Once your body gets to a certain point you'll start to sea-saw but don't let thet mess with your head. it's just your body adjusting to your new skinny life style! Hey now... Keep up the good work, you bat fastard! |

Justin, thanks very much! I was surprised I went up. I kept re-weighing myself. You knew I'd gain even though I changed nothing? That was kind of you not to tell me in advance and let me just find out on the ride. I think that was best for me.
Watching the Biggest Loser each week and weighing in has been fun, but those folks lose from 5-12 lbs. a week. They seem to live on this ranch and exercise 10 hrs. a day. I'm enjoying my small exercising jogs ( well, running in the park doesn't feel like exercise ) and eating better and less has made things simple and far less costly. OK, so I miss the beer. I'll one or 30 of those on my late Dad's b-day in June. That should be a 5 lb. gain there;-)

As you lose weight your body has to adjust and then it'll start coming off slower. Now your body will tone up and reshape as you continue your diet plan and change your eating habits. The reason why you lost quickly in the begining is because you were burning off the excess blubber and fat. Now you will lose a little slower but will be getting deeper fat out of your system.
I didn't tell you about the gain because I wanted you to see it for yourself. Don't worry, it happens to everybody. That's why I was saying not to pay attention to the scale... Continue this disipline as a way of life not as a diet with a number goal. Scales are for grams and ounces! |

Justin, thanks for those great thoughts.I bet I looked like a fool re-weighing myself when I didn't believe the scale that I could have gained. lol.
This has been a fun and educating journey.

Don't worry about it...at least you're trying to do the right thing by taking action. That's very important, more important than what any scale will tell you.
Keep up the good work! |

The worst things you can do with any diet or exersize program:
1) Use a scale. 2) Put a date on the program. 3) Become anal about working out, ie. gotta get to the gym by 6 so I can stretch by 6:15, so I can be on the stair master by 6:20 and then off by... Don't replace one addicition with another. 4) Wear a watch to time your workout. (also, I am against wearing ear phones to listen to music. Listen to your body!!!) You will go up and down, that's just a fact of diet-life. And I said it before, so I will say it again. Ditch the scale! Keep up the good work, Chubs! |

That is what these "diets" always do - you lose weight, so your stop dieting ... then you get fat again ... a never ending cycle. What you want to do is change your eating habits into HEALTHY eating habits. I just started going back to the gym to get in shape for summer, I weighed in at a surprising 155. That means I have lost 5 pounds over the winter while eating brownies and pizza and mcdonalds ... I'm losing weight without even trying. Here are the seven habits I follow: http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/berardi17.htm 1. Eat every 2-3 hours, no matter what. You should eat between 5-8 meals per day. 2. Eat complete (containing all the essential amino acids), lean protein with each meal. 3. Eat fruits and/or vegetables with each food meal. 4. Ensure that your carbohydrate intake comes from fruits and vegetables. Exception: workout and post-workout drinks and meals. 5. Ensure that 25-35% of your energy intake comes from fat, with your fat intake split equally between saturates (e.g. animal fat), monounsaturates (e.g., olive oil), and polyunsaturates (e.g. flax oil, salmon oil). 6. Drink only non-calorie containing beverages, the best choices being water and green tea. 7. Eat mostly whole foods (except workout and post-workout drinks). -JoeJoe

You're doing great dude. Gain if you are eating right and exercising is usually muscle. That's whay I say don't trust the scale, trust BF percentage.
Ah, Biggest Loser. I voted off Mike. He's the only threat to Tara. I've lost 20 pounds since the start of this quarter and lost 2.5% of my bodyfat so far.

Thanks everyone! Much appreciated the support and comments.
I feel wonderful. Better than I have in a long time, I just thought whit all the changes, it would have come off faster. Justin nailed all the things I was doing and not doing. Scales, watches, music, etc. JoeJoe, thanks for that link. Tyson, Mike was our choice here. His Dad can't win.
