That depends on your stand veiw in life. Any one that tells me its illegal to busk. Is comitting an illegal offence as far as I am concerned. On the othe hand it may help you if you more perciffic, in other words, some places claim it is illegal other places encoureg it if you get my drift.

No, busking in not illegal in ANY way, only in some ways. For example, some places require that you have a license in order to busk. In that way, if you busk and don't have a license, then it's illegal. That's just one example but should answer your question.

Busking is busking. In itself it is not illegal. "There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so," wrote Shakespeare [I think]. What happens is a law or rule is invented and it declares some circumstances from now on will be considered an activity illegal. Most of us are aware of laws that are actually illogical, inconsisten, or not able to be readily policed. "Illegal" is a word used for something that is forbidden by law. People who don't behave according to the law/s may get called "outlaws". If there isn't a law against busking in a certain place/time/space etc. then it's not illegal there. Street magician's approach to whether to busk when "the law" says its illegal depends on various circumstances. I can see that busking at times needs some control because we performers don't have a written "law" of our own that we follow. So things can go a bit bad between buskers, or between buskers and the spectators or nearby shops. If we buskers were better at following our own [buskers'] commonly accepted guides to performing, we could sometimes save ourselves having "the authorities" step in to do it for us. There is a problem in that some people look like buskers, but are actually panhandlers/beggars. Outdoor performers have a long history of being rather independant, able to look after themselves, moving about from town to town or place to place as it suits themselves. Making street magicians with such a mind-set and behaviour fit into a firm set of invented, written laws about when and how they may busk doesn't sit easily with me. Part of the romance of street performers is our "coming and going" according to how we find circumstances, or adapt to them, or avoid them. It's an air of mystery, of relative carefreeness, of "a traveller from afar". You will find all kinds of unusual experiences being narrated by street magicians. Times of astonished spectators, tricks that go wrong, of earning nothing while busking for an hour or two, of being robbed, of people extending kindness to us in the form of meals, beds, travel. On and on the stories go. But back of it all, we have a deep love and respect for who we are and what we do - we are bringers of wonder, astonishement, and joy to people living rather ordinary lives.
The presentation makes the magic.

What we are all saying is "It is far easier to beg forgiveness than ask permission." Just do it, if the local cops say you have to stop, then do as they say, if they don't say anything keep passing the hat.

If you start out by asking, someone is guaranteed to say "NO!"
