More like 4.25 oz for the set.

I know that Magic Makers is a dirty name in some parts of The Café, but they came out with a DVD and a cups (chrome plated) and balls set for $10 suggested retail.
I'll recommend a local (to me) place to get them, from Diamond's Magic: http://diamondsmagic.com/product_info.php?products_id=9567 These would work well enough to see whether you like the cups and balls. If you do, then start saving. As others have said, it really won't make that much of a difference but having good props makes magic more fun for me and I practice more if with nice equipment. Best of luck.

Suggested retail on those cups and the DVD was more like $40.00, but the market drove the price down. The best place to get those is the big auction site, if you must.
I would hold out for the Ammar DVD's, though.

The Bob White DVD is very good. However, I think the Ammar set is the best one for a beginner.

Mike; To possibly get a totally free set of good copper cups apply for a set of Riser's scholarship cups. As I understand it, he gives away a set or two each fall to talented but poor young magicians such as yourself. I do know that he has done this for at least the last five years. I do not know if there was a time limit on how long his scholarship program was to run. I do know that you will not get a better set of cups. I suggest that you email him for details. Good luck. MR

I haven't seen them yet; however, in looking over the contents, I see that it is all material that was collected from other DVD's that I do have. All the material is good, but it's not a set of basic teaching DVD's.
So far, nothing I have seen beats the two volume Ammar DVD set for a teaching set. It starts with the very basics of the cups and balls and helps the viewer develop a knowledge of basic techniques, routining and the history of the cups and balls. Some would say that the history of the cups and balls is unimportant; however, it's the history of the cups and balls that explains why cups and balls workers have done certain things a certain way. This does not mean that we shouldn't change these things; however, we should evaluate them.

I'm kind of close to the Pacific coast, but here, the Pacific Coast Highway goes from Tokyo to Osaka. Any chance you can delay it until mid-to-late July when I'll be in LA on business...? I didn't think so, but it was worth asking.
