I own one of the first 6 Axtell Remote Magic Drawing Boards produced. These work on 4 size C alkaline batteries and 1 9volt alkaline battery. The new versions are now rechargeable.

I would like to convert this unit with NiMh rechargeable batteries. Problem is I have to unscrew the back cover and take out each battery and charge them.

I would like to make a socket where I could just plug in the charger.

Could anyone help me on the type of charger I need, how many volts and how I wire the batteries for this?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Lou,

Have you tried contacting Axtell? Maybe they could sell you their charger, and all you'd have to do is connect and mount a charging plug to your prop. Or maybe they can upgrade their product for a reasonable fee.

If it were me, I'd use a hobby-type charger. I'd get a "peak" charger at a minimum, and a "smart" charger ideally. The latter would allow you to monitor the health of your batteries, and tell you how much charge your batteries are taking. Knowing how much mah you needed to top off a battery pack following a show will give you an idea of how much of the "gas tank" you used up. This may sound overkill, but if you're set on using rechargeable batteries and reliability is important to you, I feel it's money well spent. I use Triton chargers by Great Planes/ElectriFly, and they have served me well.

It might be worth taking your rechargeables to a local hobby shop and telling them what you need.

Good luck!

4 c cell are 6volts. the 9v is 9volts both are DC it should be simple to wire in two plugs to do the two jobs.
