Hello All!

I am a student of Mentalism who has interest in learning some hypnosis methods and legitamite skills that would be practical to eventually integrate into performance mentalism. I am already a big reader of Richard Busch and Plan on buying "The Busch Factor."

What would be some top reccomendations for works on legitamite hypnosis that you think would be useful?

Much thanks,

Rick

I guess the perfect advice would be something like: learn hypnosis. Then you can do (within reason based on the individual hypnotee) just about anything you want.
If there IS a Holy Grail that thet'd be it.
Failing that get a NW.

I highly recommend Anthony Jacquin's "Reality is Plastic". Anthony provides great support and there are supplements to the book specifically dealing with hypnosis in mentalism.

Thanks for the mention Aaron.

Should you order rickreation just email me to let me know you are interested in the supplements and I will send them to you. I can send you an extended extract of the book by email to give you an idea if it is for you or not.

A third 'Proper Mental' supplement is being prepared as we speak with many Reality is Plastic readers contributing.

Do any of you happen to learn about medical hypnosis and then translate it to magic?

I think that's a fair comment, in as much as there's been very high praise of RIP but there has not been a stream of people saying how they have used the methods and are now hypnotizing regularly. But having said that I can't think of any other book or DVD in hypnosis where people have come back in ther droves to say they're 'using' it.
Why is this? Is it because inspite of Anthony's great concept of furnishing a DVD along with the book + supplements, it's still about people reading stuff and not finding a way to practice it?
I have to say I hypnotised my first person 30 years ago, and even having worked as a hypnotherapist for many years would be happy to admit that RIP was a strong motivational tool in getting me to 'test' my hypnosis. The first time I heard Anthony say: "They're either hypnotised or they're not" I felt... well, kinda' lame, since I knew that I did not possess the habit of testing. But I took it as a lesson and now, due to RIP and other stuff I've picked up from hypnotists as opposed to hynotherapists/relaxatherapists, I actually hypnotise people, testing every time.
Going back to your question daghank: maybe lots of 'methods' work, but unfortunately very few people do. We're lazy creatures and seemingly riddled with fear of failure.

Goood to hear that from your Bobser. You are right about fear. I have had lots of feedback from those using it and am always glad to hear it helped them over those fears so they could get started.

Daghank, there is a 31 page thread about it on talkmagic here http://www.talkmagic.co.uk/ftopic26902.p......7223ab3d

where quite a few people have expressed their application of the ideas and approach in RIP.

I do Close up magic and Mentalism. This weekend (18/19th April)I thought I would go on Anthony Jacquin’s instant hypnosis course. I had done the long winded approach to inductions before, thinking that was necessary. Well, Anthony had us out in the streets of Derby the first day instantly hypnotising people. We even went to a busy bar and did the same. I call this course now, the 'kick up the arse hypno course', because it really gets you out there, even though your terrified of failing. You will gain confidence in doing hypnosis with this course. The Sunday also talked at how to use hypnosis with magic which was fascinating. Both Anthony and his ever-smiling sidekick Kev, are easy going and always avaiable with encouragement and a tip or two. We, the particpants on the course, learned so much and the people we hypnotised also said they thoroughly enjoyed the experience. A great course - thank you.

Actually ... they do. Kinda. Check out Brian David Phillips. He's doing a Walkabout Trance Beach Resort Getaway (long name) in August, I believe. I went to it last year, the pilot one, and it was loads of fun ... and loads of hands-on application of speed hypnosis and just getting out there and hypnotizing people.

It's not a "hypnosis for magicians" or "hypnosis for mentalists" program, though; it's just "hypnosis for hypnosis." Smile That said, you can no doubt find applications for what you learn at his workshop in your magic and mentalism. Brian comes from a theater background and does stage hypnosis himself, in addition to hypnotherapy.

And due to the fact that he has no affiliate program, afaik, I can honestly say there's no personal gain for me to recommend him. Aside, that is, from enjoying recommending him. Smile

The mentalism connection I can make Joshua. I like to have both so I can fall back to mentalism if I have problems with getting someone under. I will always include mentalism because its muscle memory for me and what Im use to doing. Ive included hypno in my gigs but mostly just suggestibility and convincers. I want to go further with this. Not necessarily a stage show but something unique that no one else is doing. With today's economy, other then kids shows, pickings are slim on my side of the water. Sure, pros can still get work but its the unique showmen who are getting the premo stuff. I would try and have a unique show anyway.

Something close to home is what I prefer. Richard was just here with Terry Stokes I believe for a three day. Now I think they are off to Vegas, must be nice.

Rambling but its hot and I don't want to go outside right now.

Regards

As a mentalist and hypnotist, I keep the shows seperate. It's very rare that I will combine them, though it's sometimes fun to incorporate waking hypnosis into walk around mentalism gigs. You do a good mentalism effect, then a couple of waking hypnosis demos, then a simple mentalism trick and they think you are descended from Olympus.
