I just discovered darts. I had a dart board as a kid, but never used it. But almost exactly one week ago, I saw this cheapo electronic dart set at our local supermarket for €15. My son and I have gone nuts.
Now, the thrill will probably wear off. But right now I'm already thinking the cheapo dart board will have to be replaced with a real board and steel tip darts. Any of you guys and gals into darts? Any good tips (ha ha) on equipment? Websites? Stories? Whatever? |

Lose that cheap board and get a decent bristle board and some darts made from titanium or other lightweight material (not brass) your game will improve immediately. Also, you will need to learn to say "bunghole" and "three in a bed" without giggling.

Good equipment will breed consistency. Darts is a great game. Cricket, 301. 501 DIDO, etc.

A mate of mine and myself used to play four nights a week a few years back, I even got a trophy at some bar league (runner-up) and about 150 dollars in cash. They cancelled the competition (the beer sponsor withdrew) and we went back to playing pool where a beer is 1 dollar and not 5 dollars.
Still like the game (cricket is my favorite although we played 501 DIDO for the competition). Now that he has gone back to Canada I haven't played for weeks. |

I'm staying away from those frogs.
Gaddy, what's with the horsehair? I thought the best boards were made of sisal? And what's with the tungsten stuff? And what's with the weight? If I decide to buy steel tipped darts, do I want 23 gram darts, or 24, or 25? Pretty friggin complicated, for just a game, if you ask me. What I want is to just get started. Where do I start? |

Basically, the more dense the material, the smaller the barrel. The smaller the barrel, the easier to group the darts. Use what feels right to you

I love playing darts...
The real thing, not the plastic boards (Although they have their place) Of course, I also play with blowguns and throwing knives. Something satisfying about a gentle throw and a thunk... Good way to pass the hours. It can be a very zen experience. G |
