Well, not exactly the type of Pitchmen that we're used to per se, but looks interesting still and figured it would probably be something some people on here would want to check out.

To pick LOUDMOUTH Screamin' and Yellin' Billy Mays is an insult to any pitchman who ever learned to use a mic and color his/her voice with the rythms of the sale...the nuances and turns of phrase that DRAW IN the ear of the listener rather than shove it back in a potential buyers head. Yeah I know he makes millions and some artist made millions by reproducing soup cans.
Put this moron on a lot with Bobby Reynold's or David Walker (or ANY OTHER pro) down the row and see who get's the tip or sells the pen or deck. Billy Mays is a disgrace to the profession and if you think he's a 'Pitchman' you either don't know squat or have never been entranced with with the rise and fall, the in and out, the hypnotic beat of a true pitch from a master...and a turn of phrase that MAKES you STOP...LISTEN and RAISE Your Hand & DIG in your pocket.

Maybe 'cause he CAN pitch and understands the mic, vocal animations and phrasing and use of the ASIDE...'they always make good stuff'

Every person I know, in this discussion area, is a better talker than Billy Mays. No exceptions.

Yeah Billy Mays is definitely an annoyance to say the least. Although I am curious to see what this show has to offer and will most likely tune in if I remember.
Also I think Nipps was referring to the ShamWow guy's other techniques, no matter how good of a talker that guy is he still couldn't convince a working girl to kiss. Also: http://drivelocity.com/images/misc/shamwow_vince_offer.jpg |

The ShamWow guy just got arrested for punching out a prostitute; seems she was biting his tongue.
Edit: ok, maybe I should have read all of Danny's post before opening my big cyber-mouth.

LOL.... funny thing about this new show... the "catch phrase is "how to do the sellin' without all the yellin'" and then Billy Mays looks on with disdain.

Furthermore, The Main "Object" of the pitch is to separate the Money from the customer...Therefore it makes no sense what his pitch sounds like...If He gets the Money He wins....Ward Hall told me the ONLY judge in a Bally is...Do you GET the Turn!... Nobody gets the TURN like Mays or Popiel...Done Talkin....

In Regards to Bobby Reynolds, I was playin Amarillo Tx in 1997 (everything always happens in Amarillo)for the Shrine Circus, Bobby had his Sideshow at the fair..Bobby showed up while I was washing Bulls in preraration for the Show, I squared Bobby in, after I finished Rides and the show started I went into the seats and talked to Bobby.."He told me he would give up the Sideshow if he could be a Ringmaster"...I told Bobby they would not let him Ringmaster, but I could probaly get him the "Mike" to do the Intermission Pitch foe Elephant Rides snake photos, pony rides, Face paintin ect. Bobby said "could you?" So I talked to the Show owner and squared it...I told the Ringmaster who was wet behind the Ears...to stay on the Floor and soak up what he could cause a "Master" was about to work....Bobby Reynolds proceeded to GIVE THE GREATEST INTERMISSION PITCH I HAVE EVER HEARD!!! IN MY 25+ years of circus! Itwas so powerfull he returned for the shows the entire weekend..I rememeber his pitch to this day..or the jest of it...He truly is a "Master' pitchman.....

Bobby's Pen Pitch is a legend as well. Glad you got to see the Circus bit. I had heard about it but YOU got to see it and hear it. One of those times a recorder would have been nice huh. He did do the Pen pitch for me once...it was masterful.
Popiel is truley a King and invents that crap too! Big bucks. As to Billy Mays...he get's the cash but I just know he could double it maybe triple it by not causing half his potential to hit the MUTE button. (Do a google). With his vast exposure he's bound to pick up the loose change. There are many people who refuse to be yelled at...so let's say he has a big following...granted but let's also say what if he works the mic and eliminates bellow and the yelling and then draws in those who can't stand the guy...Now he's making real Monster money! Not just paltry millions but maybe even Bazatripilians! haha. Hell, I might even buy something....nah.

Doug, I may not care for his style either...On a separate note...When I was a Kid I purchased the book (booklet) "The Compleat Pitchman" by Don Boles from Abbotts...My favorite part is in the section "Gettin Along" Now remember I'm 14 yrs old at the time I cannot rember it word for word..but here is the jest of the lesson...."When pitchin at the Grocery store, be sure to KEEP your EYE's off the cute Girls workin the Checkout...The Mgr, generaly likes to reserve these for himself...any attempts at Poaching is a good way to find you and your mops on the street!" Now being 14 and all I thought "WOW, they don't teach this kind of solid Info in school! Why am I wastin my TIME!...Good thing my Mother did not see it that way...or,,,I probaly would have dropped out and gone to whatever Mt. Top Don Boles resided on...and payed him a visit....

Haha...I had that book in the 60's...didn't it have a Neck Tie on the cover?
My dad was a truck Driver in NY City and occasionally something would 'fall off the truck'. One time he brought home a big box of wind-up toy bears. Having seen that stuff on the sidewalks, I figured I could do that too. My Uncle (a retired actor) was workin' the 'Stagedoor' then at an off Broadway theater and they were running a Yiddish play, so I set up outside the theater. I just wound 'em up and let 'em walk but the whole case got sold at $2 bucks a bear. I would have been hooked but the old man found out and reemed my Uncle (his brother) a new one. (I did get to sneak in a couple of more 'toy sales' on the street though.) I can list 4 or 5 careers he stopped me from getting into...all had to do with show biz of one kind or another. Did I leave the absolute SECOND I was old enough?

I would love to get a copy of that book. They are difficult to find.

If I remember correctly it was a kind of a booklet. Not too much info but a typical Boles effort. At the time, anything was good to have!
I think it sold for $2. if I have the right one in mind.

I can't remember the price I paid "Percy'..However I bought the 3 in the series from Don Driver in 2006 for I Believe $150 if my memory doesn't fade me...However, Since I do have 2 copies now (in FL) if you can't find one by Nov. remind me and I will sell the more recent copy to you...At ALIBRIS they have "The Midway Showman" (library edition $175) and "Midway Magic" (Library edition $35) these are the other Don Boles books in that series...They also have a copy of Don Boles "The Modern Wizards Manual"....but in my opinion that one isn't very good...In fact except for some interesting Billboard ads, I'd probally just give my copy of it away......
