For many years I've used Camirand Elite parlor rope. I thought it was the best. For the last couple of years I've used something cheaper, okay, but not great. I've just purchased a hank of the Elite at the same high price. It looked the same, but once out of the bag, no way! The texture feels different, it has a soft filler it didn't used to have, and not as simple to tuck the ends in as before. It just appears to me they found a "cheaper" provider of a similar but definitely not comparable product. So the search begins again. I'll check out this site for recommendations.

Thanks for the warning Alan! I'll keep it in mind when I am ready to order rope again. I have been an Elite Rope used for quite some time. It is really the only kind I use for actual shows, other than an effect or two that may require a different type. I hope it was just a fluke, bad batch, or a one-time thing. But I'll definitely want to keep my eye on this and find out more before I buy Elite Rope again.

Yes , Regan;
I'm going to email Camirand , for tomorrows show I'm going to use my "cheaper" practice rope which now I feel is better than the Elite I received yesterday. Not soft and fexible as it usually is. I hope they haven't changed manufacturers. If Guy has any response I'll post it. Alan |

Thanks Alan. That would be great! I'd love to hear what Guy has to say about the matter.

Hope that doesn't trickle down to the dealers who distribute it. Camarand does not wholesale direct to shops, they only allow distributors resell to shops, so Murphy's magic sells to shops. If that scenario is correct, they will definitely feel the pinch once the shops start getting different products.
If the product has been switched, you can contact some of the resellers to get the older original stock. Rope sourcing is volatile. I was put out of business when my US cotton supplier went belly up. Try Show-biz services (Schindler), or ask Murphy's who to buy from. Same prices to you. Also try Empire magic, an elite reseller and get the good stuff. Tell them Magic Ian sent you. They will say Magic-who?

I talked to Guy. They did try another manufacturer. Some others weren't happy with it either. It has a dye-in UV optical enhancer.(???)(I don't need that) I think that contributes to the different feel externally. And added a soft filler , which I don't like at all. It's not as flexible. They are going to return to their previous manufacurer.

I just happened to re-read the e-mail Guy sent me regarding my comment on the Elite parlor rope that I recently purchased from a high profile U.S. magic supplier. I misread Guys original message. It was the "stage" size Elite that they had used a different manufacturer not the parlor size which I had purchased and was referring to. I apologize for the error. But now the concern , communicating with Guy this morning after spotting my error he advised me that the parlor size has NEVER been changed or made by another manufacturer. What I received in a plastic bag with the Camirand label inside looked like Elite parlor in the bag. Once out it felt different , was a little stiffer with a soft cotton-like filler,and when cut it was difficult to tuck in the ends. It frayed badly. It was not Elite unfortunately. Guy states they haven't changed. There is no filler , when cut the ends tuck in easily and do not fray. What I ordered and received was not Elite parlor! That is what the invoice states , that is what I was charged for , the plastic bag had the Camirand Elite label. But the product is garbage! As I said , I still use my old practice rope in my show. Guy has asked me to mail him a piece. Which I will. And will now buy Elite only from Camirand direct. It's unfortunate this goes on out there. |

Hello everyone!
Pegani in Denmark sells a REALLY good rope. It is naturaly colored, so it is not bright white, but it is THE best rope I've ever worked with. I do a lot of Fiber optics moves and lots of different knots (one handed etc) and the rope really makes it easier. Unfortunately the page is all in danish, but it is a great company. http://www.pegani.dk/qry/detalje.taf?vareid=212D /Ark

Hi folks, I just wanted to poke my head in real quick and say that I just this morning received my order for rope and scissors from Dany (Baronian Trading).
First, the scissors. As Dany has stated on the Café here, these are the ones that Michael Finney uses. I can't believe how nicely these scissors look and feel, and the best part is they really cut like he says they do! They melt right through! I had settled in on a really nice pair of all steel Gingher's that I got for a steal ($30) and I really liked. I used them for a long time but they will never see another show. Dany's scissors are just better. They have more leverage, they cut like a hot knife through butter, and they are super heavy duty. I also bought 100 meters of one of his rope choices, 8mm with a core. I have been working for years with a thicker rope, but for the price I had to try this stuff. I am so glad I did! In a parlor or platform venue, I will use this stuff from now on! It's soft, it looks completely natural (It's not bleached, and I like that for these situations) and it handles perfectly. I will use this stuff for my Sympathetic ropes routine, Whit's Mongolian Pop Knot, Mr. Bedwell's In Over Your Head, etc... basically, any routine that I regularly perform that blows through lots of rope and doesn't need to be huge (parlor/platform settings.) Dany was also kind enough to include samples of his other ropes. These are bleached and I prefer that for certain routines and settings as well (stage/larger venues.) I appreciate you sending these Dany, as I love them all for different reasons and already know what I will be using some of the other (the 10mm w/core, as well as the 15mm w/o core) ones for! The 10mm w/o core is just like the stuff I have been using for many years, it's soft, bleached and looks great. But there's one big difference. The price! Dany's prices are amazing and the bigger the spool you buy, the better the price per foot of course. But even the smallest spools are a tremendous savings if you are use to buying retail at a shop! I just read back over my review here and I apologize if I seem a bit passionate about it, lol. I just received it a few hours ago and I am really impressed. It's just great rope at a great price, with great service. Oh, and a great pair of scissors as well. The combo of all of the above makes this an amazing deal in my opinion. I'll definitely be doing my rope business with Dany from now on.
